Inexpensive, chemical-free, and effective!
We had our first ever lice outbreak after an overnight with a friend. I ran out and bought some other brand of expensive lice killing product only to realize that it was basically hair conditioner that had nothing in it to actually kill the lice. And it had some pesticide spray which isn't really necessary if you properly wash and vacuum everything. I then went on a hunt for a product that would work. Licefreee caught my eye because it is inexpensive and chemical free and it had great reviews. If it didn't work, I wasn't out a whole lot of money. To my surprise, it did work! It smells like licorice, which I'm not a big fan of, but its not the worst smell in the world and it doesn't smell like chemicals so I can definitely handle it. After using it, I found dead bugs so it really does work. And it's so easy to use. The bottle says you don't have to pick the nits out, but I highly recommend that you do because it helps you to know if you are free and clear of lice and if there has been a reinfestation. If you don't pick the nits, then it's impossible to tell if the lice are really gone. It's like water, very thin and it runs, so spray it and then rub it in the hair to saturate the whole head of hair. I recommend draping a towel around the shoulders to catch drips. Here's the process I used: Week 1: I sprayed it all over everyone's hair first thing in the morning and then everyone went about their day while I washed and dried bedding, clothes, and pillows and vacuumed mattresses, carpet and rugs, furniture, and car upholstery. All stuffed animals went into trash bags and were put in our storage building. I left Licefreee on everyone's hair and allowed it to dry all day. At bedtime, it got washed out in the bath. For the kids, I washed their hair as normal and then used a heavy amount of hair conditioner. The conditioner makes it so much easier to use the lice comb without pulling their hair. Apply the contioner, then use a regular comb to comb the contioner through the hair. Then use the lice comb on the hair. After each swipe through the hair, rinse the comb in a cup to make sure it is clean and clear of all nits and bugs. I use the conditioner and comb every day for a week. I also pick nits by hand because some are so close to the scalp that the comb doesn't grab them. Week 2: One week after the first application, I retreated with another round of Licefreee then continue conditioning and combing hair for another week. After the second treatment, I also redo the whole house, washing and drying bedding, vacuum everything again, etc. Stuffed animals are not brought back into the house until 3-4 weeks later or a couple weeks after I'm sure the lice are gone. Week 3: After another week, I retreated a third time. After the third treatment, I just check heads for any signs of lice. I continue to check and use a lice comb until we are 3 weeks without seeing any sign of lice. If any signs of lice are found, I would retreat again weekly, but I didn't see any signs after the second treatment. It's a long process, but it is worth it to make sure that the lice are gone! For moms, if you don't have anyone to go through your hair and pick nits, just treat yourself each time you treat the kids and do your hair in the bath or shower just like you do the kids. Condition your hair and use a wide tooth comb to comb the conditioner through your hair and then use a lice comb to remove as many nits and bugs as possible. Use the conditioner and comb daily, just like you do with the kids. Make sure to retreat yourself each week when you retreat the kids. This will catch any bugs that hatch between treatments. Treat yourself, everyone in the house, the house itself, and vehicles 3 times! And make sure to clean out the vacuum cleaner after each use! No product is effective if you don't retreat. No product is effective if you don't treat and retreat the whole house and vehicles. No product is effective if you don't treat everyone in the house. Save your time and money and do it right!

It really works!!! BUT you MUST hit ALL areas!
I have to say I can't believe this stuff really works just like all the other reviews have said. Bought it 4 yrs ago when my oldest was in kinder and got these nasty critters; but it took 10 days to arrive in the mail and by then I was able to pick everything out. So I saved it....hoping I would never have to use it...4 years later in 4th grade she gets it again. Found them on Thursday; picked several out then remembered I had this stuff, sprayed it on but only used about half the bottle b/c I wanted to treat her younger sis just incase....I French braided her hair and we went up to bed. By the time we got to her room 2 adult lice were crawling on her forehead essentially trying to escape the spray! When she woke in the morning we found a dead one on her pillow. Only found 1 live one and several dead nymphs on her morning check before school. When she came home rechecked, found a few dead ones (looked really tiny, newly hatched nymphs) Was out of spray and did NOT want to wait so long to receive it in the mail. Google helped me realize they sell this stuff at the local "blank"Mart for 3 bucks cheaper than on here, so I ran there and bought the 3 remaining bottles. Used an ENTIRE bottle on her hair (she has thin hair down to middle of back) went strand by strand. When I got to the nape of the neck 5 live adult lice were escaping. I put them on a paper towel and sprayed the heck out of them with the spray. 3 died instantly. 2 very large GROSS ones seemed to not be effected at all. So I put them in a cup and poured the stuff on them and they died within a minute. Checked last night after shower, nothing. Checked this morning and nothing. Dare I say we got them all...but Im gonna keep checking and prob spray her and her sis again in a week just to be sure... plus I have the bottles on hand so I can. So I would say this stuff REALLY WORKS BUT you really have to use a ton and some adult lice seem resistant or slow to die, so I would still recommend picking thru the head really good strand by strand at least once or twice. If you miss just one nit or louse the entire process has to start all over again. I know it is time consuming, takes me 90 minutes per child, but if they are really gone in just 3 days then it is totally worth it! I can't believe her little sis hasn't gotten it. There is a lice outbreak in her kinder class and the ONLY thing we do differently with her than her big sis is apply Fairy Tales conditioning leave in spray every morning after I braid her hair. Her big sis didn't like the smell so she refused it and she was the one who ended up with lice (after a sleep over I believe is where she got it). Guess who is going to get the fairy tale spray everyday now too ;) (also purchased at local "blank"Mart for cheaper and faster than online. If you ever have to deal with this disgusting creepy problem I would not hesitate to try this stuff FIRST than applying those nasty smelling chemicals to your kids head...but don't be fooled into false sense of security thinking all you have to do is spray it and go..you really do still need to pick thru the head and remove ANYTHING at all that you see that shouldn't be there...dead or not. Good Luck! UPDATE: I have had to use this spray a total of 3 times on my kids this year! They kept getting lice from the same little girl whose parents were not treating her :( All 3 times we became LICE FREE after the 1st use! Easiest way I think there is to rid of lice! All my little ones friends also got it from the original culprit and I recommended LF to them as well before they poured all that nasty chemical junk that doesn't work on their kids heads and they were all amazed. Lice literally were running down my daughters shirt to get off her hair, I only picked out 3 from her head and then 12 newly hatched nymphs on her shirt! SO GROSS! Never found another one again. I wrote the school and told them about it and with parental consent they treated the original child who continued to spread lice up to over 10 people in the class (ridiculous if you ask me!) And after like 7 treatments, the little girl was finally lice free by the end of the school year. I read some low star reviews of people saying the stuff is too expensive, but honestly, nothing is too expensive if if gets rid of your kids head bugs!!!! You MUST go strand by strand and drench the hair, pick out anything you see that shouldn't be there, dead or alive just to be sure. For my girls with long hair I separate in 2 sections and do one at a time and then French braid the half that is done and drench it again; then work my way to the other side of the head and repeat. I don't even wait to see a louse anymore, when my girls tell my their heads itch "like it did when I had bugs in it momma" I just grab the spray and drench them. Since it is chemical free and doesn't smell that terrible, we just do it. I keep 3 bottles on hand, one for each daughter and 1 for a friend/neighbor just in case! I never thought in a million years we would have lice this many times in our home in the course of our elementary school life, but that is naïve to think that way; just use this stuff as directed and you can rest easy!

Effective lice treatment and prevention, easy to use and gentle for kids.
I bought this product and sent it to Cuba for my niece because she was suffering from lice at school, and it was very stressful for her and my family. After using this product, she hasn’t gotten lice again, and we are so relieved and happy. My family told me it was easy to use and gentle on her hair, and it helped eliminate the problem and prevent it from coming back. For a child, that is very important, especially when lice spread so easily at school. Even though I couldn’t take a picture because I sent it overseas, I wanted to leave this review because it truly helped my niece. This product gave us peace of mind and saved us from a very difficult situation. I would definitely buy it again and highly recommend it to parents who are dealing with lice problems at school.

Great product! spray is the best treatment
This is great works amazing. My granddaughter came home from kindergarten with lice and shared the little critters with her sisters in no time before we noticed. Tried other brands and lice eggs hatched and we had them again. Tried this brand sprayed their hair daily for about a week combing through and got rid of all those nasty little critters. Now I keep spray at hand and spray them the morning after washing their hair for prevention at school. It’s not stinky and it’s a spray which makes it very convenient for little ones since it’s quick . Highly recommend for both lice infestation and prevention.

Benzyl Alcohol, the main "inactive" ingredient, kills lice (source: FDA, available by RX only if listed as active ingredient)
One reason this homeopathic remedy is so effective is simple. The main "inactive" ingredient is Benzyl Alcohol, a substance approved by the FDA for use on lice. I pulled the following from the FDA website on lice: "Prescription Medications The following medications, in alphabetical order, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of head lice are available only by prescription. If crawling lice are still seen after a full course of treatment, contact your health care provider. Benzyl alcohol lotion, 5%; Brand name product: Ulesfia lotion* Benzyl alcohol is an aromatic alcohol. Benzyl alcohol lotion, 5% has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of head lice and is considered safe and effective when used as directed. It kills lice but it is not ovicidal. A second treatment is needed 7 days after the first treatment to kill any newly hatched lice before they can produce new eggs. Benzyl alcohol lotion is intended for use on persons who are 6 months of age and older and its safety in persons aged more 60 years has not been established. It can be irritating to the skin." I have a unfortunate allergy to Benzyl Alcohol so I was caught off guard by the hives I am currently suffering. I haven't encountered this ingredient in ten years (and previously only in injectable form, when I needed progesterone injections during pregnancy ten years ago. It is my only non-medication allergy, which is why it did not occur to me to read the label). After developing hives and severe itching about 10 hours after using this product on my hands, back, scalp, and anywhere my hair touched, I of course looked to the bottle to find the cause. Upon seeing a Benzyl Alcohol as the main inactive ingredient, I immediately realized my error, but also wondered the reason for its inclusion as an ingredient as it is so unusual to find this ingredient in an OTC item (believe me, I'd realize it if I encountered it before topically!). This is why I searched to see if Benzyl Alcohol was something used on its own to kill lice, and come to find out, yes it is. I'm surprised to see it listed as an "inactive" ingredient and I suspect it is a workaround so you don't need an RX. I do wish the inactive ingredients had been listed on amazon, as it would have been one more chance at saving me my current painful dilemma and doctor's visit today. I do take responsibility, though, as it's my job to read the label, active and inactive ingredients alike. I won't make this mistake again. Bottom line, though, if you are looking for a prescription strength medication to kill lice, this fits the bill. As far as its use as a treatment goes, I can't speak to its effectiveness as this was a follow up treatment for us--we hopefully had no live lice in our heads when we used it. This was treatment number 2 of 4 as I want to do some kind of "natural" treatment every 3-4 days for two weeks, each treatment followed by a comb out, as that is what helped us get rid of lice very definitively last time we had it. This time we caught it super early, and one treatment likely would have been enough, but lice are persistent, so I figure I should be, too. For our first treatment we used an enzymatic lice killing shampoo (happyheads), which was effective but more expensive. One final point-- we are a family of extremely thick hair, hanging maybe four inches below our shoulders, and I needed to use an entire bottle on just myself, and my daughter and son combined (she has hair similar to mine but in kid form and his is very thick but short) used 2/3 of a second bottle. I'm thinking it doesn't really save money over the enzymatic shampoo, as that lasted our family of four through all four treatments last time. One bottle of shampoo, $30 for the Happyheads® Bye-Bye Lice® Family Treatment Box Kit, would be the equivalent of six or seven bottles of this spray on. I'd recommend this spray on if you are a family with fine hair, crew cuts, etc, or looking for something a little easier than shampoo. It definitely needs to be washed out, though, especially on thick hair--it felt pretty awful once it started to dry. Good luck getting rid of your lice, and I hope this added info helps!

DEAD bugs after use!! It works!!
The is greatest thing for having kids in elementary school!! Sprayed my daughter at 1:30 pm. Her hair was dry by 6:00 pm. After she washed the product out, I ran the little red comb through her entire head of hair and everything that came out was DEAD!! I’m going to repeat in 10 days just in case, but this is AMAZING!

Very effective and unlike most lice treatments, this is non-toxic to people!
Both our daughters got lice from school...then my head started itching!! Yes, our family of four were harboring untold numbers of pests in our hair. Made my skin crawl first time I saw the moving bugs. Even writing this gives me the shivers! We used both the spray and the gel form of Licefree and were pleasantly surprised by the effectiveness and ease of application. The non-toxic formula wasn't too stinky and gave me peace of mind as well. Based on the ingredients, Licefree works as a desiccant, sucking water out of the lice until it dies. Since the desiccant is sodium chloride which is salt, it is non-toxic when used properly (don't let kids or pets lick too much of it and try not to get into eyes or it will sting). It also works as a suffocating agent, smothering the lice. Both mechanisms require full contact of lice and product, so it's important that you spend the time to systematically apply it to sections of hair in an organized fashion. Just randomly spraying or glopping it on like shampoo to rub it all over will create pockets of air that will make it less effective. This is true of every lice treatment available by the way. Treatment failures are often not failures of the product, but failures in the application process. (Note: There are more and more reports of lice resistance to pesticide based formulas- another reason to choose a non-pesticide based formula like Licefree.) I really don't believe anything kills nits unfortunately, even though many products make this claim. The nit shell is just very tough to penetrate. This is why the combing is an equally important step. The metal teeth of the included comb are of good quality. Unfortunately the effectiveness of any comb depends a lot on the thickness of the strands of hair. If the hair strands are very fine, the nit attached to a hair strand will slip through the teeth of even the best combs. On the other hand if the hair strand is very thick, combing will scrape off the nits, but will also shred the hair. Plastic combs are ineffective no matter what kind of hair because the plastic teeth are not stiff enough to scrape the cemented nit from a hair strand. So for our family of four with very different hair, the comb worked well for some of us. The most effective means was again, carefully and systematically searching through sections of hair for nits, then using finger nails to pinch and scrape them off. I now fully understand where the term "nit picking" comes from. (Too bad I found out after the fact that there are professionals for hire that will do this for you for a price- look online for what's available in your town.) Be sure to retreat with Licefree as if you had another infestation within 7-10 days of the initial treatment, so you kill all the newly hatched nits. One bottle of the spray was enough for our family of four for the initial treatment. We had to get another bottle for the second treatment one week later but I am happy to say we are lice free. SO happy... good luck!

I will scream praises from the rooftops over this product!!!!
I bought this product months ago. I wanted to wait and see how well it worked before I posted my review. And I must say, this product performed far beyond what I hoped! A little back story... My daughter has seborrheic dermatitis. For those who don't know what that means (believe me, I wish I didn't) it is an advanced strain of scalp psoriasis. It causes severe itching and irritation from the slightest things. Scalp tenderness, and scaling which leads to hair loss. She can't use spray hair color for Halloween, that is how bad it is. Her doctor (who I won't name) said not to use this product at all. That it would react badly with her prescription shampoo. He said that we should just use her prescription shampoo with a mild conditioner and just comb out her hair every night. And use a spray on furniture, but not HER furniture. I accepted this diagnosis for 2 years. I made a new friend at work. She had been having the same problem. Her son has scalp psoriasis. Not severe. But still a lot of irritation from most products. Her son got lice. She reluctantly tried this product on a small part of her son's scalp. He had no discomfort. So she treated his whole scalp and had amazing results! She said the lice were running from his head! So I did the same thing. I tried it on a small part of my Daughter's head. She said it burned. But only for a moment. The infestation was pretty bad at that point. She had been scratching a lot. I watched as the lice in that area just stopped moving. I used the comb that came with the spray and combed out the area that I sprayed. I used a toothpick to push the lice off the comb onto a paper plate. THEY WERE NOT MOVING!!!!! Why was this exciting? Because after taking the Doctor's advice, all of the lice I combed off my Daughter's head were always STILL MOVING. Even after using the products that he recommended (again, I will not name name's) the lice were always STILL MOVING. My Daughter said that she wanted to go forward. So I sprayed her entire DRY head (the DRY part is important!). She had some burning, but for less than 2 minutes. And the lice were running from her head! Within an hour, her shirt had more lice on it than her head!! Now it did cause her to feel tightness in her scalp. The next day, I washed her hair with her prescription shampoo and used a mild conditioner. I used the Licefreee metal comb after to comb her hair out. And I checked every millimeter of her hair. NO LICE. DEAD EGGS. And her scalp was not irritated at all! I was so amazed by this product that I was actually crying. I can not even begin to express what it is like to have a child with a scalp disorder, and finding a product like this! As I said in the beginning, it has been months since I bought this product. Where we live, schools dont care about lice anymore. Parents are not required to keep their kids home if they have lice. So I wanted to see if this product would actually do what it said it would. And it did! I am actually tearing up writing this review! This product is amazing and I love them for what they offer!!!!

It doesn’t work 100%
After using the spray and doing the treatment, we still found live nits in hair so this product doesn’t work properly. It was waste of money for us.
