My house has a composite deck with rounded aluminum rails and thin spindles and I had despaired of finding a hook for hanging bird feeders that would be sturdy enough to withstand the near-constant winds we have here. This product cured my despair! It consists of two thick pieces of metal that enclose 2 spindles like a sandwich and the hook snaps into place onto the outside piece of metal. This is a better design for my situation than the products that clamp to one spindle, since those twist in the wind due to torque from the weight of the feeder on the hook, damaging the spindle.I appreciate the seller getting this to me more quickly than Amazon had estimated. It arrived USPS Priority Mail, in a long cardboard tube, with 3 sets of instructions and a link to a video on how to put it together.I will be ordering more HoldItMate products!

Easy to install, and does hold bird feeder, but is "bouncy" when you hang things with weight from it. Did not stand up well during high gusty winds - may have been due to the squirrel baffle above the feeder hanging from it. Even the brace on the railing came off.I wish they had made it with a "stabilizing" bar below the main bar (like a triangle) for less bounce. However, birds don't seem to mind! I have one of the short ones as well, which is great. I got the long one to stop the squirrels from jumping from the deck to the feeder - no luck!

I have a deck with a powder-finished aluminum railing system with square balusters spaced 4 inches apart. Attaching the mount to the balusters was simple, fast, and secure. I did use a level to make sure that both cross pieces were perfectly aligned and level. It looks good, and unobtrusive. I was impressed by the finish and overall quality of the hardware.I'm using it to hang a hummingbird feeder, and like it so much that I'm going to order another. I got the model with the longer hanging hook. I think that this would be suitable for lighter things to hand, such as a typical bird feeder. I 'd worry if one attempted to hang something that weighed over 5-6 lbs or so given the lever effect of the longer hanging hook. If you wanted to hang heavier items such as plant pots, suggest that the model with the shorter hanging hook might be more appropriate.

This Hold-It-Mate hanger is a very well made, well designed product! If you have a larger bird feeder or a big hanging plant that needs to hang farther from the edge of the railing, this hanger might meet your needs. It can hold 10 pounds and the extension measures 32" long. I am using it for a long tube feeder that must hang 18" away from any obstacles to allow the birds access. My feeder holds 5 pounds of seed so it works great. This length extension actually puts the feeder 24" from the railing. A large hanging plant could work on this as well but be aware of the weight limit. Hanging plants get pretty heavy, especially after they have been watered. I like this product so well I have purchased three others with different brackets and I know I will be buying more.

Super easy to install, 3 minutes max, and no tools required just the allen wrench it came with. It's very sturdy on my metal rails. It came with 3 different screw lengths. My trex deck rails used the smallest size. The hook is also thick so I'm not worried about it holding up my Squirrel Buster birdfeeder full of seed. You do need to attach the clamp a few inches down from the top of the rails because the hook has to attach and my rail got in the way. It was easy to loosen it, move it down and re-tighten.

These bird feeder hooks are exactly what I needed to hang our bird feeders on. No drilling or screws or any other invasive attachments.I took a couple pictures of what’s inside the package. Very clear instructions. Not that you’d need them. It’s really easy!!The extension hook fits nicely on to the rail. Pop the bird feeder on and you’re in business.I 100% recommended these for your deck. Easy. No holes to drill. And they have other options for accessories.

We bought this to be able to fill our bird feeder during the winter months. Our feeder is normally on a sheppard's hook in yard, but we get a lot of snow and so we wanted it more accessible from our deck. Unfortunately, we have some ingenuous squirrels that have figured out how to get from our deck railing into the bird feeder. I figure the hook would have to be a foot longer or have some type of barrier that would prevent squirrels from making their way to the feeder. If you too have squirrels, this hook will not likely protect your birdseed from them.

Item looked like it would be perfect but my husband had to make some adjustments to make it work on our deck spindles. Even though the deck posts are wood, the bracket still slips a bit now and then. We were worried about how sturdy it would be during a high wind but it stayed in place. We've also had a fox get up on the railing and manage to get into the feeder and the rod bent slightly but not enough to cause a problem. Not quite the product we were hoping for but it's getting the job done.
