Cord Protector really works well!
Critter cord really keeps your cords safe and your pets away from them! Goes on easy, you can cut it to size. Does what it's supposed to do. Does it have a smell? Oh, yes, it does. In the beginning it can be overwhelming. What I did was soak it in the tub with epsom salt. Then I let it dry in the sun. It got rid of most of the smell and after a month, the smell was gone. It still works fine, because it's tough to chew through. It still protects your cords even without the smell. If you don't like the smell, just do what I did, soak it in epsom salt and let it dry in the sun or blow dry it. With time the smell goes away. If you're not bothered by the smell, go for it, your pets won't like the smell at all! Like I said, it works without the smell. I'm very happy with the Cord Protector!

Finally, something that works!
I have a very stubborn cat that was incredibly keen on chewing through a particular cord at my desk. I went through 3 different cords in various configurations that she SOMEHOW got to before I settled on the crittercord. And boy, I wish I got it sooner. This is the one and only thing that stopped my cat from destroying my cords. I tried sprays, tubing, tighter tubing, scat mats, everything. And this finally did the trick. Pros: -WORKS. I haven't tasted it but it must taste BAD. My cat gave it a few test chomps before she gave up. -Comes with a lot more than I needed, so I have more for future wire-chewing events. Cons: -The smell will fade, but initially out of the package it has a very acidic smell. If it's in an area you'll be close to it, consider letting it air out for a few days first. I had it at my desk and I could smell it for a few weeks before it faded away. Once you are done cutting off a piece, keep the rest in the bag!

HORRID SMELL THAT WONT FADE
So 3 people in my house were completely baffled as to why we were all smelling concentrated cat piss all of a sudden. My kitty had just exited its litter box and we became worried because holy hell the smell was So intense. After 10-15min the smell hadn’t dissipated so I threw out our mostly fresh litter in our litter box at that time, but the smell was still there! Like what?! It then occurred to me that we started smelling this piss when I was opening up my Amazon package. Sure enough, i picked up the package and it smelt like it was soaked in cat piss and perm solution. So I took the tube out of Plastic because surely the tube was fine and it was just the plastic. But no, everything smell like a pool of cat piss and it was so strong that filled my whole house. Completely Unusable!!! God-awful. I even put this tube outside to breathe for a week and it’s still intense. I can’t hardly believe it. Like how? Why? Perm solution and concentrated cat piss. Has to be toxic ..I will be returning both packs. One opened.

If you can handle the smell this will work for you
Product would be excellent for its intended use except that it's somewhat twisted and the end of the cord keeps coming off. But the little whole length of a cord is protected. I have a four month old kitten who wants to chew on everything and this does help. However, as many people have stated it stinks. To me it smells almost like something is burning. I have to keep catching myself before looking for what's on fire. But at least I can charge my phone without worrying that she's going to eat my cord.

The only thing that actually works!
My cat has an unhealthy obsession with HDMI cables and power cords. I tried so many things that did not deter him from chewing at all - bitter apple spray, wrapping with cloth soaked in no-chew products, a cayenne pepper paste...you name it, I tried it and I'd STILL find chew marks. Finally I found this product. There were a few bite marks in the first few days when I put it on, but clearly my cat decided it wasn't worth it anymore. No more replacing HDMI cables every month and no more worrying about my cat getting electrocuted because of his strange addiction. The product does have a strong odor at first, but it's not wholly unpleasant - Sort of a weird plastic-citrus smell. The smell is part of what makes it so effective. It fades in a few days, anyway, so im not sure why other reviewers make such a "stink" about it. Highly recommended for cats who need a cord-chewing intervention. It saved mine from a stint in rehab and eliminated awkward conversations about why I was painting cords with odd spices. Mug shot of the offender attached.

Sorta does it's job, good secondary defense.
These people complaining about the smell are ridiculous. It just smells like lemon cleaning solution- GET OVER IT PEOPLE. you shouldn't rate a product poorly based on it's SCENT. For the record, the odor is what is preventing your animals from chewing on your cords. Jeeze. Cheese smells rancid but tastes delicious, would you throw away some cheddar and give a crummy rating before tasting it? I don't think so. I personally like the smell of it since it reminds me of a freshly cleaned surface. In terms of effectiveness, my rabbit still likes to chew on this cord- she also likes to chew on the black accordion looking plastic tubing as well. I've tried spraying my cords with Grannick's bitter apple which seemed to work but it wears off quickly since it's made of alcohol. I do like the thickness (which some of you may not like since it adds a significant amount of bulk) but this is my new regime: cover my 84$ macbook charger with the cheap 3$ hard plastic black tubing, add the 12$ crittercord on top, spray it with 10$ Grannick's bitter apple deterrent every now and then and hope she doesn't get past all the defenses. So far my cords are still working- it's been a few weeks. 25$ vs 84$ is fine by me- I will be saving money in the long run since one bite can render a product useless.
