They are an extremely comfortable boot and even though they are insulated, they are fine in warm weather. As a carpenter for the last 30 years, I have worn a lot of boots. These are, by far, my favourite. **Q: What part is made in the USA and what part is done in China?** A: I do not believe any of it is made in China. I love the boot. Best I've ever owned. **Q: Steel toe boot?** A: I didn't buy the steel toed boots.. **Q: Is this more of a work boot or hiking boot?** A: This is more of a work boot. A very nice work boot, but a little heavy for serious hiking. I'm very hard on boots and they get exposed to harsh chemicals daily. The chemicals usually eat at the glue that holds soles on boots...like Timberlands. The sole is sewn on these boots. They are very expensive but I previously went through two pairs of timberlands a year. I'm on year 2 with ONE pair of these boots and they show no signs of fallen apart. The one thing that has happened is the inner liner has seem to pull away from the boot. Even that has not ripped though...like I said these get ABUSED and often come off soaking wet. Once a year I treat them with bees wax and that's it. Best pair of work boots I've ever owned.
