Great discs just don't use them for long term storage
I've used literally over 5000 of these BD-25s and BD50s for backup purposes at work. What I've learned will hopefully save someone out there a lot of headache and/or heartache over data loss. These discs, and all discs (except M-Discs), are NOT meant for long term storage. They use a partially organic dye that WILL begin to erode over time, corrupting the disc and losing all of the data stored on it. You can write the disc, place the disc in a case, put in on a bookshelf and never use it again and it will still fail eventually. Others have posted photos of what this looks like in their reviews so I'm not going to. The point to learn here is DON'T store ANYTHING that you don't want to lose on a disc (except M-Disc). These come with two different types of dye. There's one that's a blue/purple color and another that's gold in color. What you want is the gold. Those last A LOT longer than the blue/purple dye. The problem is you never know what type you're going to get. I've had the blue/purple dyed discs begin to erode in just a couple of months of no use. I have yet to have a gold dyed one fail and many are over 10 years old but I know it will still happen eventually. The BD-50s are more likely to have gold dye than the BD-25s. For what they're meant for, short term storage, they work great. Just don't use them for long term storage because you will lose everything you have saved. It's just a matter of time.

Better than Verbatim!
I only use Pioneer brand writers since 10 years ago, and right now I am using the older BDR-206. With BDR-206, I have used Verbatim BD-R DL 6x but so far 4x can burn through successfully every time (Windows 10 built-in burner program) but it still grinds a long time half way when switching from layer 0 to 1. Nero would give up easily there. Burning Verbatim with the built-in program at the rated 6x was a shockingly low 30% successful rate. When the burning was successful, data read back is verified good. Optical Quantum 6x, the result has been amazingly perfect so far. The Windows 10 built-in defaults to burn at 8x, which realistic burn time is no different than manually setting to 6x. No matter 8x or 6x, there is no loud grinding sound or long pause when switching layers to test my nerve. Surprise, surprise, this Optical Quantum 6x is better than Verbatim 6x at a cheaper price! Burn with more confidence!

Great product, but some disks failed
I bought 2 packs of 25-disc spindles, to backup the large amount of data I have. I was happy enough with the discs and they burned quickly enough (about 20-30 minutes for 1 disc, which is as expected at least for me). However, between those 2 packs, around 7-8 discs failed. Normally, if these were throwaway CDs that I bought for 20 bucks and 7-8 failed, first of all I'd be surprised, but not too worried. However, when I'm paying $80 something for only 25 discs, I expect them to all work, so this is really unacceptable. I would rate this 3 stars, but the only reason I'm rating 4 is because this is the best current option for blank 50gb blu-ray discs.

A Totally Reliable Blu-ray Recordable Disc
These BD-R DL 50GB Recordable disc's have been my favorite for the last 5 or 6 years. I have NEVER experienced a failure using these disc's. The life span of the disc's is also a major factor to consider. I have had Major Brand BD-R DL 50GB disc's fail after a year. On the same note I have never had one of these fail and some I have had for up to 6 years with back ups of my favorite Blu-ray movies on them that play as well as the Blu-ray that I backed up. The key is to first use good software to make your copy or rip, then do not record directly from the folder that contains the data but rather make an ISO image of the movie and then burn your Blu-ray from that image. Doing so allows the user to verify the data or image prior to committing it to a disc that can be expensive. This also allows the user to choose where to "Split" the data that is being written to a Dual Layer Disc which means that the Layer is essentially "Page Two" of the 2 page movie, and the place where that data splits is or can be critical to the success of the finished product. This is why an application such as IMGBurn is suggested for this purpose, and it is amazingly 100% free to the user and the most reliable software I have used to record DVD and Blu-ray disc's. One last note, Optical Quantum doesn't manufacture their disc's so its a good idea to identify the disc's that are working well for you. Going from a 4x to a 6x disc will most likely be a totally different manufacturer which may give the user totally different results which is why I only buy the 4x BD-R 25GB and the 6x BD-R DL 50GB disc's from OQ, and they work every time, and that is after well over 1,000 25GB disc's and 600 of the 50GB disc's.

Please ban optical quantum from amazon for cheating us out of our money - see my tests.
Confirming what other users have reported here, the discs being sold now are no longer high enough quality to be sold. They need to be banned from sale on amazon. See below: Using the LG WH14NS40, the burn proceeds, but all discs fail to verify in imgburn at 51% (layer break), “Medium error, L-EC uncorrectable error” (see photo). The resulting disc’s files can not be read. I have confirmed with another LG WH14NS40 unit this error continues to occur, ruling out the drive as the problem. I re-ordered the same discs and it still happens (Jan or Jul 2019 order date), ruling out a single bad spindle of discs. However, the older batch of discs I had (Bought Jan 2018) burned fine and verify fine. Therefore, the quality with the optical quantum disc is bad. Verbatim 50 GB BD-R DL VBR260YP20SV1 discs burn fine and verify fine in the same drive. As other users have noticed, using the Pioneer BDR-209DBK is able to successfully complete the burn AND the verify with these crappy discs, HOWEVER, if you copy the files off you notice that at the 50% layer break, the speed slows from >25MB/s to 8 MB/s. See the attached graph – it recovers its speed later in the burn. This effect is not observed with the Verbatim 50 GB BD-R DL VBR260YP20SV1 discs burned in either the LG or Pioneer drive. Therefore, the new batches of Optical Quantum 50 GB BD-R DL OQBDRDL06LT-50 are not high enough to quality for use in an LG drive, and those burned with the pioneer drive clearly are only able to be read at a slower speed, which is not acceptable. As a person who has been buying ONLY optical quantum discs for 10 years, I am extremely disappointed that they changed their manufacturing and that my amazon return window is closed, so I have 90$ of discs that are not useable. I want my money back! UPDATE: I tried burning at 4x and it burned and verified properly in the LG WH14NS40. Furthermore, it copied without having difficulties reading at the layer break like in my image from 6x in the Pioneer BDR-209DBK. Optical quantum should not be calling these 6x if they can not do 6x (anymore). So, to summarize, Disc ID: RITEK-DR3-000 – BAD OPTICAL QUANTUM (Disc ID: RITEK-DR3-000 for good batch too) Good at 4x in LG WH14NS40. detected max at 6x and worked at 6x on old discs though…was slow to copy from after burning on pioneer at 6x -problems just beyond 50%, consistent with layer break issue. Disc ID: RITEK-DR2-000 – SMARTBUY discs Only 4x! works fine, copies fine. Disc ID: VERBAT-IMf-000 - VERBATIM Detects as 8x and writes as 8x fine. Disc ID: CMCMAG-DI6-000 - XTREMEPRO Detects as 6x and writes as 6x fine (advertised as 4x, so this is a bonus)

Reliable and Cost Effective Blu Ray Discs
I have been using the Optical Quantum 50 GB blu ray disc now for over a year to copy and store my family video. This disc never fails when recording and plays back without any problems on a blu ray player. I burn the disc using an external LG blu ray burner connected to my PC. I have tried other brands and experienced failed burns, and discs become unusable and must be discarded, which can become quite costly exercises. As a Prime member of Amazon, the discs arrives within 2 - 3 days after order. Optical Quantum makes superlative discs that are the cheapest in the market. Strongly recommended.

Good quality
Even though Blu rays are becoming outdated to the younger generations, these blu rays are of great quality. I create and edit new movies of old home movies from friends and relatives old 8mm films and VHS home movies. Once finished editing, I burn them onto these Optical Quantum 50 GB Blu Rays which they rather prefer having then dealing with flash drives.

Works well
Working as expected so far. Slow generic Windows copy, but specialist software gives good transfer speeds.

Porduct as advertised
Used on older /slower burner so burn process was painfully long. burn only 2 so far, no errors. These media tend to be overpriced, possibly due to low demand.
