## Description

What is the 55SH Series II best suited to? The Shure 55SH Series II is suited specifically to vocal applications. Therefore, typically live performance, public address as well as for broadcasting, recording, and sound applications where a stand-mounted microphone with a classic look is desirable. What type of polar pattern does the 55SH Series II have? A cardioid (unidirectional) polar pickup pattern is employed to minimize sound pickup from the rear of the microphone. This allows the Model 55SH Series II to be used in close proximity to loudspeakers without creating feedback problems, and it can perform under adverse acoustic conditions where omnidirectional microphones cannot.

Review: Stunning Sound - I was using a decent condenser mic that was dropped and only half of it worked. I was looking for a replacement, but didn't want to spend a ton. I needed a good mic for both gigs and studio recording. Well, after researching quite a bit, and finding out that this mic doesn't need phantom power to work, I decided to splurge a bit and get it. I'm a singer/guitarist (singer first, guitarist second), and I love condenser mics for how they capture vocal sounds. I expected a lot from this mic because it's a Shure, and I am NOT disappointed as all! The sound quality is stunning both live and in-studio. The only thing I've noticed is that when I use it live, the PA gain has to be turned up quite a bit, which has (sometimes) caused some feedback when the guitar gain is up as well. I don't think that's a problem with the mic, though. It's more of a problem because I play guitar quietly sometimes. The fact that I have a condenser mic that does NOT REQUIRE phantom power is wonderful. It adds so much more to the mic's usefulness and versatility. But really, I can't get over the sound quality. Stunning. For the price, which was a little steep for me, I think it probably far outshines other condenser mics out there. In addition, it seems to be very well built. And, it's gorgeous to boot. Note: I (like several others) purchased the Aenllosi hard carrying case as part of a bundle from desertcart. I strongly recommend getting a hard case for this mic if you plan to move it around. It's well-built, but it's still a condenser mic, and I don't want to take any chances.
Review: Love the sound. Love the utility - To each his own..but I love the sound from this mike. Paired with Forusrite Scarlette 2i2 the sound is crystal clear. Awesome for live music for a singer/songwriter. You can position it 5-6 inches away and give yourself room for the guitar and vocals are still crystal clear. Allows you to move around the mic...making it very comfortable to perform or rehearse. Plus...can't beat the look in front of the mic or from the audience. Five stars!!!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: This Shure Super 55 Deluxe Vocal Mic is ~$60 more than the Shure 55SH Series II Iconic Unidyne Vocal Mic. Anyone own both? What makes it worth more?**
A: My friend has the 55SH series 2 and I have 55 deluxe. After trying his I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to buy one of my own. I went with the 55 deluxe because since it has a beta 58 capsule as opposed to an old SM48 capsule it gives you higher gain before feedback. the frequency response is also more desirable having 60 Hertz to 17,000 vs. 50 Hertz to 15,000. So it's brighter and attenuates more of the low end that you really don't want to have on a vocal anyway. However both of the microphones do have different sounds and if you're after more of a lo-fi I sound the 55SH would be a better option but if you want a really awesome sounding one that is more up do date with todays technology get the 55 deluxe.

**Q: Still not clear from description - does the mic require phantom power?**
A: No it does not. It is a dynamic microphone and does not need phantom power. If this was helpful, please consider purchasing from us (pixelproaudio on Amazon). We can help with support after the sale as well. We have it in stock and ready to ship. - Pixel Pro Audio

**Q: I don´t see any information if the cable is included with this mic**
A: Leandro...there is one more important thing you should know if you want to build your own cables and it is that, in the case of a microphone cable, the connector "shell" ground--the horizontal piece above the other three pins--should be connected with a jumper wire to Pin #1 at both ends. A microphone case is NOT grounded if you don't do this and it can result in noise, hum or even radio frequency noises---especially if you hold the mic in your hand! There is a more complex version of this, but just do that, and you shouldn't have those sorts of problems.

**Q: Sirve para coros?**
A: No. Es un micrófono direccional; no es omnidireccional

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A New Oldie and Goodie
*by G***B on August 10, 2024*

I'm doing a Remembering the Rat Pack show in October. I am wanting to put on an over-the-top show, and so when I saw this style of microphone I made it to the peak! It not only looks and feels awesome, but it also compliments my voice in a way that far exceeded my expectations. I'm running this through a power mixer, so there is plenty of power available for hitting the back of any dance hall through this setup. One of the most annoying occurrences while singing is that "pop" noise you get with lyrics that start with "b" or "p" (and others). I'm not sure if it is my experience alone that makes me avoid this sound or it may be the blue screen that surrounds the pick-up coil. Either way, I can belt out some of Frank's loud songs from about 9" away and it sounds amazing with no "pops." I highly recommend this microphone for anyone who is looking for that retro look and still wants to be heard!
