But for my uses, it is absolutely FANTASTIC! I got this to replace my AT2020 because I learned that Dynamic mics are better for picking up vocals only in front of the mic itself, and that's exactly what this does. I use this for streaming, gaming, and generally talking to friends on discord, and it's extremely nice not needing to use any software processing to isolate my voice and get a clean sound. The reason why I didn't put the price as a con is because it's much easier (and possibly cheaper) than treating my room with sound dampening foam and such. It really does a great job at isolating my voice, and running through the Focusrite, my gain can be high with almost no static from the gain being near max. This is where the cloudlifter will come in. From my understanding, it's recommended that your interface be capable of outputting ~75dB to power this mic, however the cloudlifter can boost your interface by ~25dB without introducing static. Basically the cloudlifter lets you phantom power your dynamic mic (dynamic mics don't directly take phantom power). Since you will probably need a cloudlifter, you'll also need another xlr cable because. Aside from likely needing a cloudlifter, there's not really anything negative I could come up with. It does exactly what it's supposed to do with great quality. If you're eyeing this, you probably already know that they used the SM7B to record Michael Jackson's Thriller back in the day, so it rightfully has Legendary status. If you're new into higher quality audio, I recommend the Focusrite Scarlett Solo which is right around $100. I wouldn't recommend going less than that because you start risking less clean audio. It's also a must to get a cloudlifter so you're not maxing out your gain. The volume and quality will be much better. All in all, this was a solid purchase. Audio is very subjective, so definitely listen to some sound tests on YouTube before you make your decision. While this mic is perfect for my needs, it might not be for yours. When investing in equipment like this, generally, the price reflects the quality, and you need multiple components to get it working properly. This is the best sounding mic I have used in my 30 years of working with sound. I have a couple high-end large-diaphragm condenser mics and worried that this one wouldn't be able to produce the sound levels I needed. Was I ever wrong! The microphone is golden on vocals (only use it for close-mic voiceover work), but the quietest I have ever heard when it comes to background noise. Even having the A/C kick on during a session does nothing. I had heard the mic was good in this regard, and bought it after a recent move left me without a professional recording environment. Outstanding performance! For those not in the know, you do need a preamp with more juice than most (Shure recommends +60db gain at a minimum), or you need to buy a Cloudlifter to make sure you have enough gain for line-level input. I am currently using this with the Mackie 402-VLZ3 which is a quality product but definitely on the low end. Sounds very nice with it alone, but once I added the Cloudlifter, the mic came alive. Sounds very warm and intimate at default settings, can roll the bass off if working with a script containing more plosives, and can boost the mid-range presence if desired. I have always handled this on the mixer or in post, and have considered these settings on the mic itself to be a little hokey in the past. However, I must say quite frankly that I was impressed with these two settings on the mic. Overall, in my top 3 pieces of electronic equipment, and wouldn't hesitate for an instant to recommend it to others. When you buy your $3000 Neumann and don't like the way you sound, try this - you will likely be impressed. If I would have spent a grand or two on it, I would write the same review - when you get this much performance for $350, what can you say? You definitely get much more than you pay for. Regarding build quality: It is very well built. Materials feel expensive, it is large and solid. Switches in the back are crisp, the yoke mount is top notch, and the design definitely looks and feels like a commercial broadcast mic. This is not a flimsy Made in China piece of junk.

Huge upgrade from my quadcast 2. It is a very Gain hungry microphone so you will need a strong DAC or a cloud lifter to accompany it. For the microphone itself it is pretty easy to set up. The audio sounds fantastic but I am sure it can be improved with some EQ tweaks. You will need it really close to your face so plan accordingly and get an arm that can support it.

Vi muchas reseñas que supuestamente tenía un sonido muy grave y oscuro, pero la verdad no he tenido necesidad de comprarle un preamp como el Cloudlifter o algo así. Con la pura Scarlet 2i2 de 4ta tiene suficiente y da siempre un sonido súper claro y limpio. Incluso me atrevo a decir que tengo que evitar subirle la ganancia de más porque entonces sí se vicia. Obviamente no viene mal una buena ecualización y es justo lo que ayuda a levantarlo todavía más, pero me parece que tiene un desempeño muy bueno por sí solo. En cuanto a calidad, se nota que está hecho para durar jaja es pesado pero muy resistente. Definitivamente para conservarse toda la vida.

The other reviews say it all about the SM7B. It's the most popular podcast mic with all the trendy and most viewed podcasts for a very good reason (even if one of which is half of them can't stop playing with and readjusting it on the fly, and it's low handling noise let's them do so). But sound quality wise, it is truly one of the best around and THE best at the price point. However, you need lots of gain to drive it. That used to mean a fethead or similar, but so many audio interfaces have enough clean gain to drive it these days so it's less and less of an issue unless you're using old gear. The one caveat for me is that it is definitely not for all voice types. For my tone and timbre, it needs some work in post to make it palatable to the ear, but due to the quality of the thing all of the dynamics are there to allow me to do so. So it's worth bearing that in mind if you want a mic that you can plug in and go with a minimum of post production, this may or may not be the right one for you. A brighter, cheaper option like the Rode Podmic could well do the trick and save you a couple of hundred notes (enough to buy a decent interface and a second podmic). It's still great, it's just not ideal for all use cases.
