Excellent resource for any high school or beginning college student. If your student is a reader they will know most of these words and how to correctly use them in a sentence. I purchased this workbook for my son to fully acquire the academic word list for college writing, he asked for a resource that would improve his vocabulary for college papers. The academic word list is a good start and this workbook includes short readings using the words in context, not just drills.

Is one of the vocabulary books that is complete and has lots of words to teach you

I purchased it for a foreign student studying English at a VIrginia university, it was a required book. I did look it over, and it appears to be good. I plan to purchase the Vocab 1 book for someone less advanced in English.

The focus series in general is one of the best for teaching academic ESL. What I have found is that it is also a great tool for working with struggling English speakers as well. Highly recommend.
