Better than Apple's SuperDrive!!!
I bought this external CD/DVD drive at the time because I was converting my friend's hundreds of CDS in his house to digital so he could put them on his hardrive and listen to them that way. The computer I was using had a fully functional drive but I was afraid of breaking the drive after hundreds upon hundreds of CD rippings. This thing is AWESOME! It may feel cheap when you first get it, but I can tell you that it is far from cheap after weeks of hundreds (probably thousands) of CD rippings.I also needed one because I am getting a MacBook in 6 months. MacBooks do not have CD/DVD drives to make more room for battery and horsepower. Apple sells an external CD/DVD drive for $80! This thing has a faster write and read speed, a smaller form factor, and a far better price than Apple's external drive. This is what Apple should be producing! It has a pleasing design and there is no set up time. There is only one port, the USB which powers the device and the eject button. It is wonderful for travel, I would guess it's about 1/4 LB. It's amazing!IMPORTANT NOTE: The only thing I would like to point out for laptop owners is using this device while on battery power MAY naturally drain the battery faster. It would seam realistic, but I haven't done it yet. I have YET to try that out when I get my MacBook Air!I am a busy man, and don't have anytime to write reviews. I was so happy and pleased with this device that I MADE THE TIME to write this review. I bought one for my dad and recommend it to anybody who doesn't have a CD/DVD drive who wants one. This is the best 20 bucks I've ever spent!

I'm now and LG Customer, spend the thirty and take away the hope it works fears.
It seems to be working to above standards right out of the box, instantly loads dvds, all the ones my dvd drive won't load this one doe's so I can keep upgrading my Vudu account. It seems to play them just fine without loading any of the software that came with the unit, so I just tucked away the software so if needed I have it. I haven't played a whole movie yet but it opens under fifteen seconds or way quicker and plays it then since I'm just uploading to Vudu I stop it and do my thing, but the picture is pulled up on screen for intro so I can tell it's playing the dvds. One cable seems to be more than strong enough using HP CQ 60 usb port. It's kind of light and flimsy but not bendable flimsy. Expect the unit to be moving all arround while taking in and out discs, it's think just a half an inch high, so I finally ended up wedging it under the usb plug in and that seems to hold in a good place and keep it from moving all around, now I just need to find a shorter cable in my bag of cables to make it pretty, one that comes with it though has the magnet shield magnet on it so not sure if I should switch it out. Push the button on the front and it pops right open not a fancy one like an x box but more like the ones that come with lap tops, latch is released and spring pops it open. Makes some loud noises with some dvds and those were not properly pushed down enough so be careful of that. Still some are just louder even when rightly inserted. It's got a plastic sticker on top to make it look aluminum brushed, it's all plastic, so don't mistakingly try and peel it off as a clear protective sticker like the ones found all over unit when you get it like I did, didn't peel up at all but I was just lucky. As I said plug and play replaces immediately your internal drive once auto driver finds right driver to communicate with unit, I'm using Windows 7. Expect it to be smudgy on top from holding the unit down while closing it each time. No fancy lights or anything just one blue or green activity light on front and one button on front to open it. I think that covers it, as I said brand new and haven't played an entire disc, but very pleased on it's lightning speed of opening all my dvds when my drive would just click for minutes and still not open them. Write me for questions, spend the thirty and be satisfied, I'm now an LG customer. I have it running off a plain usb not 2.0 or anything, at least I'm pretty sure it's just a plain usb.

Works with Windows 10
I recently purchased this item to go along with a brand new HP Spectre x360, both of which are primarily for my wife to use.The Spectre x360 ships with Windows 8.1, which we did not want, so the plan was to take the free upgrade to Win10 immediately, right out of the box. The only drawback being that most ultrabooks (the x360 included) don't come with Optical drives anymore. That's where a device like this comes in. But a lot of USB CD/DVD drives (this one included) don't *yet* claim to support Windows 10. The last time I checked LGs website (which was the same day I purchased this item on Amazon), the listing stated support for a number of OS's, including Windows 7, 8, and 8.1, but it DID NOT list or mention Windows 10 in any way.I purchased this device because it's size/form factor was appealing (it's very small/compact, and I like the simple black appearance), the price was right, and it does everything my wife needs (to be able to install software that's on DVD discs, and be able to RIP/burn audio music and recordings for her work), without any *extra* features that my wife doesn't have a use for (namely Blu Ray read/write). The only concern here was Windows 10 support. We didn't want a Windows 8.1 machine, and my wife needs a device like this in order for her new ultrabook to be everything that she wanted/needed it to be.I am pleased to say that this device DOES work with Windows 10, all-be-it- not elegantly (to-date). Hopefully LG provides a firmware update, in the near future, to make this a more *plug-and-play* solution. But for now, although the disc does not start up automatically when inserted, nor does the computer pop up with any sort of message indicating that it's identified an inserted disc or connected device, if I navigate through Windows Explorer, the ultrabook does see the device. Double-clicking on the drive DOES open the disc, where all files can be viewed. And by clicking on the proper installation/executable file, the drive WILL read the disc, and the software that my wife needs successfully installs on her new Windows 10 PC. We haven't tried to RIP or burn any music yet, but I don't anticipate that to be a problem either. It's not elegant (yet). Hopefully LG improves upon it in the near future. But I just wanted to provide a user review stating that, at least for my wife's use case, this drive DID work for her/us on Windows 10. It hasn't failed once yet to do what she needed it to do. FYI. And, as expected, the size/features/price point was *right* for us. It's a nice purchase. I'll try to remember to return to this review later, if/when something changes, and update my 4* either upward (if a firmware update comes making this a quicker more plug-and-play device) or downward to 3* (if/when this device fails for the first time to perform an action that it should be able to do).

Works like a champ, for great price. I'm sticking with LG unless it doesn't fit.
Used the reader/burner for in and out on my and my friend's computer with out fail. Took it to the pawn shop and sold it for $5 but wanted it back many times in the interim.
