A MUST- READ FOR ALL SEXUALLY ACTIVE ADULTS
I purchased three copies of this edition as gifts and one on my kindle after having read with my husband the first edition years and years ago. Before reading this revised joy of sex the 3 couples I gifted it to over the past year related to me how incredibly helpfu, fun, eye opening and educational it was for them. The ages of the couples varied from early twenties, thirties to seventies ... and all were very grateful for having read, able to "study" - and "apply" the book. It should be offered in Adult Class; "life 101." This book is a very important investment in yourself and your own sexual partnershiping adventure.

Educational and fun with your partner!
This book was recommended to me by a therapist. Husband and I purchased it several months ago and are slowly going through it. We take turns reading each other chapters and talking about it. We are less than halfway through, and have already learned a bit and got some nice ideas! I would recommend it for anyone looking to read along with a partner and try out something new. We are having a lot of fun with it! The book is a nice hardcover with a good jacket.

Decent
The book is more graphic than expected. The artist who drew the diagrams clearly used the models in the photographs at the beginning of the book, which makes it a bit weird. The content is rather decent and informative, containing facts and interesting tid-bits. The revised edition tried to incorporate modern elements, but I think these are unnecessary and taint the book: preferences, fetishes, "relationship-friendly" pornography, fantasies, etc. All in all, a good buy, but I'd recommend the original version instead of this modified/revised version.

Joy Then and Now
I owned a copy the original version of "The Joy of Sex." It worked fine for me then. Recently I moved and found the box I had packed it in had broken open. The only book missing was my original 1972 version. Explain that as you will.I replaced it with "The Joy of Sex: The Ultimate Revised Edition." What an eye-opener in more ways than one: New pictures, actual photographs in addition to the drawings; new language and new topics -- not discussed and indeed not thought of in the original; and this time it includes my female perspective, not just his.Joy Then has become more enlightening, more usable, and more fun in Joy Now.

A Bomb Once Now Grown Tame
I can easily believe that when first published in the early '70's, this book hit like an atomic bomb. While it's been lightly updated, the impact today isn't nearly what I suspect it was back when first published. There's nothing really wrong here. It does go over some techniques and ideas couples likely won't come up with on their own. There's a huge lacking, though. For the theme of the book or these certain techniques to work, both partners have to feel comfortable with themselves, each other and able to openly discuss sexual topics between themselves. However, if a couple is that way, very likely they are enjoying physical romance enormously even never hearing about this book. The problem within couples is often caused by a reluctance or even inability to express one's needs or inquire with an open mind one's partner's needs. The book does not delve into how to get such a reluctant couple to, well, open up in a metaphorical sense. The book does address lack of confidence in women caused by obesity, but only effectively says, "Don't worry about it". Curiously, there isn't much of anything about the obese man, though. Anyway, if you lack confidence due to any physical issue, just being advised to not worry about it won't work especially since there also are further advisories about using caution during some sex acts if you are overweight. In the end, we enjoyed the book, but learned little from it.

Everyone should read this, I read in 1 sitting.
Absolutely beautiful text. Well written highly lacking bias. One of the few texts I have ever read that I think I agree with 100% of the message. I am going to give my children this book to read so that they can have a healthy sexual development. If only this book could be taught in school our children would grow up having a healthy relationship with sex and a deeper and more empathetic understanding of themselves and the world around them. I read this book in 1 sitting I couldn't put it down.

The Ultimate Reviser of Relationships
Yes, Alex has done it again! The Joy of Sex, read it many many years ago, I use to sneak in the library to read it! Boy, have times changed. It is more informative and has pure equality written all over it no matter the relationship. It advises on positions of love making and hitting specific areas with more information. It also includes websites and information to groups and other information with life issues in this area. To rev-up an exciting relationship or to become more informative, the Joy of Sex will set you on your way. Great educational tool. I highly recommend putting it on your bookshelf. Make sure you read it!

For visual learners too.
It shows in pictures the most complex positions and doings of sex. Yet, it keeps the simple positions in the for front by dipicting them also. The pictures are in drawing form but almost clear, like a photo. It's very informative, good for women and men. It's a great book to read together and take turns sharing. I bought it, even though I am single and not mingling in that way I am curious. And it's satisfying my curiousity and making sex a more appoarchable, and talktive subject. It's great.
