From the "Disposal Heap" to a now speedy Mac – This Timetec 16GB Kit is the Best $40 Upgrade! I recently rescued a mid-2012 MacBook Pro (MD101LL/A) that was literally headed for the electronics recycling heap because it was old and using OS 10.7 Lion with only 4GB of RAM. It was painfully sluggish. Before giving up on it I did some research and was led to this Timetec 16GB [2x8GB] kit. I placed the order in the morning here on Amazon and it arrived the same day early afternoon. If you’re doing this upgrade yourself just make sure to grab a #00 Phillips screwdriver and a small container for the screws since they are very tiny and easy to lose—a magnetic screwdriver tip is strongly suggested—but overall the install was easy as I just popped the bottom off, swapped the old 4GB of stock RAM for these two 8GB Timetec modules and had it sealed back up in minutes. The performance difference with this Timetec 16GB kit was immediate and it started up like a brand-new machine so I was able to jump from 10.7 Lion all the way up to 10.15 Catalina and I’m actually preparing to push it to MacOS 13 Ventura next. It’s hard to find 16GB of reliable RAM for under $50 these days let alone under $40 so this Timetec 16GB [2x8GB] kit is a fantastic bargain that not only saved the computer from disposal but also kept a perfectly good piece of hardware out of a toxic landfill. If you can find one of these older MacBooks they can be found at great value and a perfect starter computer for a first-time Mac user, so with a little research, the Timetec 16GB kit, and some patience this laptop is a great investment and I highly recommend this Timetec kit if you want to give your Mac a second life! Before I conclude this review. I used Google Ai to research all the Apple MD101LL/A upgrade information from Ram to all the steps of upgrading the Mac OS from Lion to Catalina. Upgrading to Ventura is a little tricky but doable. I also used the Ai to clean up my images due to poor lighting on my bench, so I hope they are clean enough to see.

Really easy install and my computer is running smoother and more snappy if that makes sense. 2012 iMac only has 4gb installed and it’s one of the last years it was able to be added to. I use it for music production with Logic Pro. Still runs great, even better now. Highly recommend.

I bought the Timetec 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR3L 1600MHz to upgrade the memory in my older MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012), and it made a huge difference in performance and stability. I upgraded my mid-2012 MacBook Pro 9,2 13in 2x4GB Timetec RAM to 2x8GB Timetec RAM and my aging computer is able to handle a lot more. It's a night and day difference. When I upgraded the included 2x2GB factory RAM several years ago, I thought 2x4GB was the max my computer/model could handle. I am thrilled with the new capabilities, especially given how limiting the 8GB RAM was in working on graphic files. The overall performance of my computer on internet browsing capabilities has increased dramatically as well. I am known to keep a lot of tabs open and I have yet to encounter the dreaded spinning ball or involuntary restart since installing this 2x8GB RAM (both were daily issues for me prior). The affordable price is a HUGE bonus as well. My only is advice is to not wait like I did, do it now...you won't be disappointed. Installation was super easy. I watched an internet video on RAM installation for my specific MacBook just to be sure I installed it correctly and I did on the first try, no tools needed. I consider myself computer literate, though I have zero experience in working on the inside of my computer. Super easy!

I purchased a toolset with necessary screwdriver(s) and this drive for about $53. A local shop had quoted me $349.99 to replace my dying SSD drive and reinstall OS. It was easy and it works great. One issue I ran into I used the wrong technique to disconnect the 9 pin battery connector, I bent one pin inside. I had to use a magnifying glass and flashlight after removing the battery to give a better view. I was able to fix the bent pin, and got it working. Successful job :)

I bought this for $18 on April 2023 : a Timetec 16GB KIT(2x8GB) Compatible for Apple DDR3L 1600MHz for my lat 2013 IMAC 27 inch and am very happy with it. It was easy to install via the slot in the back of the IMAC, be careful with static discharge, and after putting the 2 into 2 slots I had a total of 16GB + 8GB(Original RAM) for total of 24GB DDR3L RAM. I came back on Nov 2025 to buy another 16GB and Black Friday had it for $26 and reg price is $31!! Even the $26 is 44.444% MORE THAN 2023 price of $18.......... RAM prices are a SCAM for 2025 so I'm not paying that. However, if you do choose to pay it, this is quality RAM and well wroth it at $18 maybe $20 b/c of inlfation but not 26 and even less at 31..... .lol For my PC I did load up on 96GB DDR4 (June 2024) so I'm good there for next 5 to 10 years, haha

Timetec lists this as memory for various older models of MacBook Pro, from the days when the RAM in those was still socketed. It works fine with those, but it works equally well on non-Mac systems that accept 8 GB DDR3L SODIMMs. (DDR3L is specified to be able to work at 1.35V, but it's also compatible with 1.5V operation so you can use it in systems designed for that voltage to the RAM.) It has worked perfectly for me in a Thinkpad, and the price was right. If you have a computer that uses DDR3 or DDR3L memory (not to be confused with LPDDR3, a different an incompatible standard) that's still good enough to justify a small upgrade expense, get this. Upgrading to 16 GB will improve the speed and smoothness of most things that you do with your computer, and you're getting it for a small expenditure. Side note: these are not old stock, DDR3L is still being made. When I bought one of these kits in November 2023, the modules that arrived have a date code from early September 2023.

Works as advertised on an old imac 13,1 from 2012! now this imac is very usable in 2026 with a ssd and 16gb of ram, and OCLP for a modern IOS. Installation is on the difficult side, the screen needs to be cut out and removed to get to the inside where you need to remove the motherboard and place the ram in their appropriate dimm slots. I upgraded my old macbook pro from 8 to 16 GB . Works perfect . As I had already installed a Crucial SSD , this macbook pro is now running at par if not better than the later macbook pros which have limitations to upgrade from 8 to 16 GB ( solderd on ram) . With the extra ram , I can run several virtual machines on my macbook pro hacking and penetration classes , without worry about ram allocation for the various virtual machines . The price was also 30 % cheaper than what i had been offered by a reseller . Thank you !
