For temperatures in the 30's/40's with strong winds I wore this jacket, a t shirt and cotton sweater and was quite warm. Could've made due with just a t shirt underneath.Fits a little smaller and slimmer than your average XL. I'm usually between sizes and the XL was perfect for a slim fit that wasn't too tight in the waist.Hood is huge and great as a protector from elements but it is large and can get in the way a bit at times.
