X500 stalling issues. Replace the ECM with the actual OEM JD manufactured part.
It’s expensive. But, an OEM I feel is the only way to go. It’s not difficult to replace. The difficult part is trying to be almost certain it will help solve a nagging problem that apparently is common to the John Deere X500 garden tractor. I am confident. I want to compliment the seller for taking the time to properly packaging a sensitive device. It’s refreshing and increasingly rare that someone took the time to properly protect the device for shipping. Far too many shippers these days don’t do that. It’s a shame. Thank you. After running my JD X500 twice as long and in 80 degree temperatures my tractor never even had a hiccup after replacing the ECM with the OEM. First time in the two years it’s been failing. Bottom line is this product fixed my tractor. It’s no longer stalling. The JD dealership failed twice diagnosing the cause. They kept telling me they ran it for periods of time. But when I pressed the service manager he wasn’t the one working on it. He was relying on some so called mechanic. But, I do have a life long knowledge of electronics as I did teach it for 31 years after my electronics education from high school and the USAF. Don’t know what qualifies a JD technician, but like so many other companies the AF has much higher standards. Go figure DEI…maybe. I highly recommend anyone experiencing this problem to purchase the OEM John Deere ECM. Pay the extra money and save yourself money, time and frustration because this problem seems to be common to the X500 and similar JD series models.

Solved problem. Very easy to install.
Deere X320 mower (11 years old) quit while mowing. Would not restart. Checked battery voltage, way low. Disconnected the battery and connected it to a battery charger. Noticed positive cable connection was corroded on mower. Battery would not take charge. Replaced battery and positive cable. Cranked better than ever but still wouldn't start. Checked plugs, wet with gas. Dried off and cleaned plugs. Still, neither plug was sparking. After a few checks of the wiring, etc suspected this module might be the culprit. Called dealer and asked if I could bring it in and see if their shop "test" module (the same part they keep around for diagnosis, as there is no way to check the part itself) could be plugged in to the mower to check if the existing module was the cause. No dice, too busy to give me 5 minutes of their time. Note, the same dealer suggested this trial "fix" the last time I had similar issue (about 5 years ago) and I brought mower in, and the trial module solved the problem, and they sold me a $75 part. Not this time. Maybe a different service manager. $100 gamble paid off. After installing the replacement module the mower started right up and it seems to run fine now. The part was delivered 2 days ahead of original estimate. It was fulfilled by another "local" dealer, slightly further away than the "no dice" dealer. Maybe I'll call them next time instead.

This fixed my JD X300R Lawn Tractor.
This fixed my JD X300R Lawn Tractor. I bought my mower new in 2010. Last year, and this summer, my machine started to turn itself off in the middle of mowing. It acted just like I turned the key off. It would always restart and then run long enough for me to finish my lawn. I replaced the ECU with this and have used the mower 5 times since. This part has fixed the problem. This IS a John Deere part. It came in JD (sealed) packaging (see picture). It is the newest version of the part. My part is dated 6/19/16. It screws right in - under the dash. I don't see how charging the battery "wrong" could cause this part to fail. Instead, I believe when the battery is getting old, and the mower won't start, that is what's taking these ECU's out. I've seen the same situation with some car parts. We turn the key on, the ECU needs the full 12 volts to operate properly, the battery is weak and as we try to start the machine - the voltage drops to a much lower voltage. The ECU gets a much lower voltage - and something internally goes awry. In hindsight: The first time I had this "turn off" problem, was soon after it wouldn't start last year due to a worn out battery. From now on, I will make a note in my cell phone calendar to replace my battery automatically after "x" years, so I change it before it ever gets weak or fails. This part cost me $57. A new battery only cost me $33.

Instant Fix To My X300
The battery on my X300 was five years old and getting weaker. Instead of just buying a replacement, I began putting the charger on it frequently. Well, apparently one of those charging sessions blew out the ECU (this product). I installed a new battery but the tractor would not start despite turning easily. I checked and I was getting no spark. I ordered this product. It arrived quickly and I installed it by using a 10mm on the one bolt securing the product to the tractor. First turn of the key, the tractor started right up. I have confidence in this seller and the quality of this product. If I ever need to charge my X300 battery again, I will do so off the tractor.

This is the culprit you are looking for
Just in time for spring mowing and my 2009 Deere x300 wouldn't stay started after the key was released to the run position. The engine would stay running as long as the key was fully rotated to the start position and held (engaging the blades would shut down the engine). Local repair shops in my area were too busy and are very expensive to deal with riding mowers. I replaced the ignition switch and the seat safety switch, but those weren't the problem. Luckily, I stumbled across this electronic control unit on Amazon and read the reviews and ordered the part. Once in hand, it only took a few mins to install. The old control unit was dated 2008 and the new unit was dated 2020. The mower started and functioned properly with the new control unit. BTW, the Amazon ship time indicated 6 days, ugggh, but actually it arrived FedEx from Hartville Hardware in a day's time, yay!!

ECU review
Worked well the 2nd go around. As others cited, jumping a bad battery fried the first replacement. Should be able to handle a jump start imho
