Outback Jack Outdoor Cat Enclosures for Indoor Cats (Portable Tent, Outdoor Cat Tent, Tunnel, and Playhouse) Play Tents for Cats & Small Animals

We have had this tent for a long time now and have used it many times when fostering kittens. We live in a small cottage & have 3 cats of our own. Every time we get a new batch of fosters, we have to quarantine them and get everyone used to each other. The tent makes that easy & convenient. If the kitties are feral, it gives them time to get used to the activity around them (sometimes we start out with parts of the tent covered, depending on how feral the felines are; we always provide a tunnel they can hide & play in). Note: If a cat/kitten is too feral, this tent's size allows the animal to cower in the back & there is no way to get to them without climbing in to get them (not a good situation). They can also totally freak out inside if not given enough privacy & time initially, so if we have a tiny or very feral animal, we usually start with a small playpen since it's easier to grab them to medicate/interact with (most pens let you get in from the top & side), but then we graduate them up to this tent so they have room to play. Once everyone is used to the new situation, we let the kittens out into the main area. They then love to climb on the outside of the tent, which acts as a kind of trampoline & sleeping hammock. This is great for kittens, but once over about 4lbs, they can hit the mechanism that closes it and the whole tent collapses. Obviously that is not a fault of the manufacturer, just putting it out there as a warning that there is a weight limit should you let the animals use it as a jungle gym. When we leave the house, we toss the kittens back in so we know everyone is safe & is easy to find when we return. We rarely use the tunnel part - it is quite large & just doesn't fit our situation. Others were complaining about not getting it to zipper to the tent but we didn't have that issue. Everything worked as expected. While the tent is large, we have made it work even in our small cottage. The size is what makes it so perfect - you can easily fit litter, food bowls, beds & toys & still allow some play area. We did end up with one small hole in it after a metal, spiral toy got caught up in the mesh, but it has taken a lot of abuse & held up beautifully. We've had cats try to claw/bite their way out & had kittens dangle from the inside by their nails while playing with other kitties outside on the top, and not once has there been a tear nor has a cat/kitten got tangled in it. Cleaning is a bit of a pain in the butt & it's possible to miss organisms that might be in the seams - (most of the kittens come with parasites - we live in the Caribbean), so it must be scrubbed down regularly with Rescue and/or bleach - but we just collapse it, bring it out on the deck, spray it, scrub it, hose it down, and leave it to dry in the sun before setting it all up again. We haven't yet had any issues setting up or putting away this tent & it easily fits under the bed when not in use. I highly recommend this if you foster animals of any kind or are introducing newly adopted pets to each other. It's a nice safe space while everyone adapts. We will be donating this one to the cat rescue we foster with here when we move back to the US in a few months and will be immediately buying another one for ourselves for future fosters.

I bought the tent, that went over very well. Kitty and I are trying to find compromises between indoor and outdoor. Came back to buy the tunnel and tower. Then I read about the tower not fitting larger animals (mine is large frame 14lbs- healthy) so I skipped that. I ordered the tunnel and got nervous when after (yes, yes always read reviews FIRST I know) I read that it did NOT attach to tent. OH NO!! It's not true. I'm not sure what other people are doing wrong, or if I got lucky (just ordered a second tunnel, so here's hoping!) but the tunnel fairly easily attaches. However, it only attaches on ONE END. So if you've tried one and don't see how, spin that baby around and try again! To the point: *Been using the tunnel daily for a couple of weeks. No issues. Folding up, pulling out. Pretty easy. Could do with some clamps to make getting into the bag easier, it wants to POP out and be useful all the time! =) This is easily solved though, just need some clips. *Tunnel DOES attach to tent. Bags hooked onto to tunnel to store extra doors, nice touch. *Zipper is easily secured by using one of the bag strings (they're sturdy) and looping it the another bag or the ties attached. You'll see. Not at all tricky. *Unlike the tent bag, which is a chore to get the tent back into (The tent it self is great!) this bag is nice and roomy. In fact, I was able to squeeze both the tent and the tunnel into it. Tent sticks out of the top, but it's a lot easier than trying to get into it's own bag. Very happy with this! I would like to see more to add on. A cross section. A better tower than can support larger cats. I'd probably buy it all until my yard just looked like some deranged maze. Sorry neighbors! At least it all packs away with ease. UPDATE: Here we are almost two years later and here's what I can tell you: We still love these products and will buy more. I've gone through 5 tunnel sections and two tents over the last (almost) two years. The first tent couldn't take the weight of the snow so well and broke after a nasty storm, which is fair. I should've packed it away, but Kitty was still braving it so I let him have his fun. The tunnel sections have a major flaw IF they're on rough terrain - the yellow material scrapes off and boy do I mean fast! Other than that, they are very sturdy. Unfortunately once the yellow fabric comes off the wires are undone from the mesh and the whole tunnel starts to deform. I solved this by outdoor cord wrapping the wire and yellow fabric to the mesh. Just keep looping around and through. This thick outdoor cord allows the tunnel not to scrape on the ground thus saving the yellow fabric. It also better secures the wire to the mesh so the tunnel stays springy. It took FOREVER to wrap one section, but that section has now survived for over a year with NO damage to the yellow fabric. Here's the cord I used, it was a little thick to get through the mesh, but I worry that thinner cord would not protect as well. If only ABO would expand!!! Longer sturdier tunnels, a tower that fits larger full grown cats, a duel opening tent like the one I'm about to take a chance on?...ah, but I've said this before. Finger's crossed.

If you've never bought a cat tent rest assured you will like this one. One caveat being that sometimes the cat likes it so much ut doesn't want to come out, so the tunnel can be left off if it's a problem, and the tunnel can be used separately with enclosed mesh zippered ends, 3 in all. Very well packed, nice enough bags for storage or travel. Nice quality tent, especially for the price. The yellow tape on the tunnel may not last being out in the sun, maybe they improved this since the last one I had. And the little yellow loops you use to stake it down also can wear out. I bought some small aluminum stakes which I like a lot, haven't used the ones that come with it. Stake it down though! I usually collapse it in place (or put inside) if weather is coming. Makes it a bit of a pain to move when mowing, but pretty easy really, 5 stakes total 1 for tunnel. I like to put a water resistant pad in (which can kill the grass if not moved frequently), and please remember to keep it where it will have at least some shade. We avoid midday heat and sun though. Cats do like to stretch up and may be able to bring the tent down on them. Usually a sign they want out, or want to run around the yard. Overall, these are very nice options if you have a cat who always want to go outside, but you want to keep them safe. It should last many years, and can easily be moved around. Outdoor Jack tents are my go to cat tents! No regrets! Enjoy!

I have owned and used both the Feline Fun House and the ABO Gear Happy Habitat for Indoor Cats. My cat preferred both, as all he wants is to be outside. I definitely prefer the ABO to the Feline Fun House. First, the ABO was $30 cheaper than the Feline Fun House. And truthfully, I think spending $70 on the Feline Fun House is too expensive for a "cat toy." $40 for the ABO was what I consider the max on a present for my cat. Other than price, I prefer the ABO for the following reasons. First, the ABO is easier to put together, and literally opens into form, when you take it out of the travel case. The Feline Funhouse Opened easily, but was impossible to break down after opening it. The one and only time I tried to break down the Feline Fun House, I spent 30 minutes trying to follow the "easy" break down directions, and ended up bending the support wires, and the Feline Funhouse never opened up fully again (since I accidentally bent the supports, in trying to break it down, to transport it.) The ABO is truly "easy" to open and can be broken down in an second. When the ABO is broken down, it actually fits back into the little bag it came in. There is no way the Feline Fun House would ever fit into the bag it came in when you try to break it down. The ABO breaks down so easily and is to small, that i will take it in my luggage when we travel with my cat. The ABO is also completely see though, as it is completely made out of mesh. The Feline Fun House has parts that are made of blue fabric that your cat can not see through. My cat can see in all directions without any obstruction in the ABO. The ABO is definitely larger then the Feline Fun House, in that it is taller. It may not be much larger in the base, where the cat sits, but the fact that it extends higher, makes it a larger enclosed space in general. My indoor cat is SO happy in this tent (as well as in the Feline Fun House) that I DEFINITELY recommend indoor cat owners try one model. My cat wakes me up every day meow-ing then running to the back door, wanting to be let out in the tent. Just a little note: I put heavy chairs on the edges of the tent to hold it down. My cat has discovered that if you run into the sides of the tent, it moves (as does the Feline Fun House). I have found both tents, across the large yard/ and street, (with my cat still inside). So if you dont pin it down, your Kitty could end up across the street. I dont think the stakes that came with the ABO are big and deep enough to really "pin" this tent down. I would not trust them. My cat is very large and could easily take off, and pull out the stakes that came with the ABO tent. The Feline FunHouse stakes are the same, and not deep enough. I opt for the heavy metal chairs on both ends of the tent. Just beware of this:)

My two cats love it - my girl especially. When I put both of them in it, after about 30 minutes, my older boy cat started beating up on my little girl cat. My girl gets scared pretty easily by humans and noises, so now I walk my boy while she stays in the tent, and swap them out when he's done with his doing his rounds in the backyard on his harness. My girl seems super happy in the tent and I feel happy that her insane bird and squirrel kill instinct will result in nothing. And she feels safe enough that my husband can walk around the tent without her cowering. I think I saw one commenter mention wishing there was a bottom opening so they could eat grass. I was worried about that. Luckily, some of my grass does poke through the mesh bottom, especially as they walk around and push the bottom part down. They are able to eat what pokes through. I do wish I bought two tents, with the tunnel, because of my bully cat, but I wanted to see if either liked the tent at all. It was a SUPER easy setup. I store it in the box because I use it daily in my backyard, plus saw others had a hard time putting it in the carry bag. I recommend using the stakes for achieving max space on the floor. Also, I could fit in the tent entryway if I wanted to, as a 150 lb adult.

08 mar 2020 Just leaving an update. This tent has outlasted the old boy, so now just the girl uses it. We've had TONS of setups and teardowns; even left it out in some weather for a few days. Still as awesome as day one! Also including some updated pics. WORTH THE PURCHASE. Now I sometimes just place it on top of a tarp if the ground is damp. Parents beware: small children like our 3 year old likes to join in on the fun lol. 20 jul 2015. I got this right on time. It was out of the box and setup within 4minutes. Very simple to use. Advice, trim your kitties' nails before use, and make sure both black pull cords on top are in one hand before your other hand collapses the tent. Otherwise one of the pull cords can get stuck in the creases of the support sticks. The tent weighs just a couple pounds and the netting seems durable. I first set it up in my livingroom on carpet, and it had been a month or so since I trimmed my cats' nails, so maybe that's why they caught a few times. Once I put the tent and them outside after a trim, they were just fine. My boy did panic alittle when a semi went by, so I'll try it later when the traffic is minimal ((he doesn't like loud noises as it is, so no surprise there. Not the tent's fault)) The tent is definitely a plus rather than having to stick them on leashes! It gives us fresh air and minimizes my stress as I drink my morning coffee--on the leashes I had to constantly watch them and pull them away from the balcony railing. As other reviews have said, it does have a large footprint. Like 30sqft. It's a slight rectangular shape, about 6' x 5', with the door on a long side. It does not tip over, even when your cat panics--my 20lb boy couldn't move it when the semi truck went by. It does come with anchors for use with ground, and tiedown points that you could probably maneuver to your deck anyways. The door is large enough to fit an adult thru ((I climbed in there myself with my cats to show them the door)). It is easily large enough to put an open litterbox and a petbed in, so I'll try that later. It seems worth the price. I haven't used the tunnel yet, so I'm not sure on the whole zipper thing. Also, I'd have to turn the tent sideways to use the tunnel, should I choose to do so. This *might* make it a tight fit; like, wedged against the railing and under the slidingdoor's runplate. I will do my best to update this later. I'd say purchase it and test it out several times. It's pretty neat!

I have to say the tent itself is very well made, spacious and incredibly easy to set up. It arrived in a narrow long box. I took it out, pulled the string that attaches/snaps the thing into place and voila! Personally I think the mesh is pretty strong too - but I feel your cats claws should be at least slightly trimmed. Our cats were trimmed very short about a month ago and they've grown some since, but he hasn't torn it- thought he has tried! We got it today and have taken our cat outside twice for about 15-20 min each time. He seemed a bit uneasy the first time. He paced around like some caged tiger. Also he got scared by a loud car that drove past and started to head bunt the tent as if trying to escape! The second outing was a bit better. He didn't pace. He still looked a bit tentative but was able to relax a little more despite the loud children outside. I think there are moments where he forgets he is enclosed and suddenly tries to dart off- which of course means he crashes into the side. He bit at the tent and clawed a little, it didn't rip. Then he laid down for a while and seemed like he was more relaxed. I highly recommend putting treats, toys and something soft for your cat to lie on inside. I hope he starts to REALLY enjoy it. It's rather spacious (I fit inside!)and easy to setup so I hope he makes the most of it! We'll see- I'll write an update sometime :) P.S. I ordered early in the day and Amazon shipped it same day -AWESOME! UPDATE: After a few uses our cat seems to be more relaxed and is enjoying it. He took in the sights and later was laying down and playing with his toys. He didn't pace as much and didn't dart into the sides of the tent with his head anymore. I think it takes a bit of getting used to for some cats. Ours goes inside without a problem. He doesn't seem to want to be in for more than half an hour but he's starting to like it. I am glad because our house gets very warm and this gives him some fresh air. I do wish the mesh wasn't big enough for bugs to get in. Some flies got in. He had fun chasing them and stuff. I just don't want him to eat any (parasites!) but other than that I love this tent! It is SUPER easy to put up and take down. I take it down every night and just stick it in the shed. Easy - I hate anything that requires too much work hehe.

Me encantó. En movilidad, la he llevado a varios lugares y es muy cómoda para transportar. Aunque la bolsa parece grande, no estorba, es ligera y cómoda. El catio es muy fácil de armar y desarmar. Cuando la quise armar la primera vez, sí tuve que buscar un tutorial porque no me quedaba claro cómo hacerlo. Ya una vez que sabes cómo armarla, te das cuenta que ni es necesario un instructivo porque es facilísimo. Tiene buen tamaño para que mi gato pueda moverse, trepar y dormir, en cualquier posición, cómodamente. El único detalle que cambiaria del interior, es que las bases de los pisos no son tan rígidas (al principio mi gato tuvo miedo de subirse) pero ya que se acostumbró, lo hace sin problema. El material es muy resistente. La mía ya tiene una pequeña apertura porque mi gato juega mucho pero tardó mucho en hacerse y aún así el hoyito es muy pequeño y no causa problemas. El diseño es muy bonito, aunque en general predomina el negro y el gris, tiene sutiles detalles de color que me gustaron mucho. En general, me encantó. La uso mucho y gracias a ella he podido viajar con mi gato (que no es muy sociable) a montaña, playa y o dentro de la ciudad (a lugares donde no puede estar suelto) sin problema.

It may not be fair for me to write a review right now, but I am going to anyways. This item came to my house within two business days, so the shipping was great! I have not been able to use it outside as of yet, so that is what may not be fair, but I live in Alberta, and its -30 degrees Celsius outside right now, so I cant use it out there. I set the tent up inside my house, and my two cats ( 2 and 3 years old) both came running to it. They both smelt it for a short while, then I put them inside. They loved it! They walked around in circles, then tried batting the sides of the tent. The older cat then laid down inside. He loved it. He sat in there for almost an hour before I took him out so that I could wrap it back up. I then easily folded it back up and placed it in the carrying bag. I can not wait for summer now, because I know if they liked it this much inside, they are going to love it outside.

Just received it today. Set it up in about 5 minutes. Only going by the illustrations on inside of bag. Not great instructions but I did it. Lol. I bought for my balcony. My cat wasn't overly excited bit I'm sure a few more times in it will get her used to it. Was up for about 2 hrs and a storm was rolling in do prayed it wasn't too difficult to take down snd it wasn't bad at all. The only thing that sucks is for the price. $159 plus $58 for import fees (yikes) They certainly could have provided a lot better quality carrying bag. Not good at all. A duffle type bag would have been much nicer. This bag won't last long at all. Besides the bag it seems like nice quality. Time will tell. 🙂

This is an excellent play tunnel! We have the play tent of the same brand too. But our cats did not use the play pen much because cats never like to be trapped -especially outdoors- for their safety, so we wanted to find an open and safe way for them to enter the house without having to buy tons of stuff such as cat doors and special doors and cages...etc. So, we measured the circle of the tunnel and cut a hole in the screen door, hooked one end of the tunnel into it and hooked the other end in the play tent. It worked perfectly. They are now playing the in-and-out-game as much as they please and are enjoying the outdoor safely. You'll find good details with both the tent and the tunnel such as little bags to store the net and a bag to store the tunnel. The zippers are good quality and they fit easy together. Good value for money! We want one more tunnel and playpen for sure.
