Nancy Zieman's Confident Sewing Collection: Sew, Serge and Fit With Confidence

The absolute best resource for beginner thru intermediate sewists! Advanced sewists may also find this book to be a valuable resource. I'm an intermediate beginner sewist and after watching Nancy's video demonstrating how to do a full bust adjustment on YouTube, and learning that she authored several books on sewing made me so excited to try my hand at sewing garments for myself. I hoped that this book would also have tips on doing other types of fit adjustments for commercial patterns and I hit the jackpot! I found the instructions to be very detailed but explained clearly along with step-by-step photo tutorials for many techniques, especially perfect for beginners! I love the fact that book also includes information on how to use Sergers, which might be my next purchase once I become more confident and satisfied with sewing.

Book arrived in excellent condition. Nancy Zieman was an excellent sewist and teacher. I am so happy to have this book as a resource in my sewing library.

I've been sewing for decades, and my makes were always hit or miss when it came to fitting. I recently discovered a great sewing podcast that talked about fitting the pattern to fit your individual measurements. Then, lo and behold! I saw a couple of Nancy's tv shows on PBS where she showed how to make pattern adjustments - this is just what I've been missing all this time. I immediately purchased this book, and it has been life-changing. I took a pattern for a knit top, measured myself according to her method, made the adjustments to the pattern, et viola! I now have a wonderful top that fits me to a T! I highly recommend this book to anyone who sews, whether you've been sewing for decades, or are a complete novice.

I recently retired and am getting back into sewing. It is great for reviewing how to do and get great results on some less often used sewing tasks. Considering it is actually 3 books, a great deal. Also the fitting methods I am using on ready to wear items that have never fit and need some tweaks..

Good reference

This book combines 3 of Nancy's sewing books under one cover. It is an amazing treat to have them all to help one sew. You can expand into several books and figure out exactly how to sew whatever you want to create. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their sewing skills. Thank you, Amazon, for having it available.

A beautifully presented book. Good clear diagrams; easy to read in columnar format. Example photographs included. Logical order to presentation of information, broken down into easy chunks with instructions. The inclusion of “Motivating Memos” and “Nuggets of Inspiration” make this a first class book on the subject.

Ich bin ursprünglich auf der Suche nach verständlichen Overlockanleitungen auf die Videos von Nancy Ziemann gestoßen. Diese sind leicht verständlich und einleuchtend. Meine Hoffnung, dass dieses Buch genauso gut nachvollziehbar gestaltet ist, wurde nicht enttäuscht. Obwohl es leider nur in englischer Sprache erhältlich ist, kann man es wunderbar nutzen, da die Bilder für sich sprechen und die Texte dazu nicht ausufernd sind. Mit meinen Englischgrundkenntnissen also durchaus verständlich. Dieses Buch ist eine Sammlung von drei Büchern der Autorin zu den Themen Nähen, Overlock und Schnittanpassung. Jedes Buch beinhaltet zum jeweiligen Thema Grundkenntnisse und anwendungsbereite Tips sowie einige Projekte. Da die Bücher z.T. schon vor 8 bis 10 Jahren herausgebracht wurden, sind die Projekte für meinen Geschmack etwas hausbacken, aber sie beinhalten nur einen geringen Teil des Buches und lernen kann man davon dennoch etwas. Insgesamt ein umfassendes, gut verständliches und sehr informatives Buch für die Hobbynäherin. In dieser Fülle ist mir auf deutsch kein anderes Nähbuch bekannt. Für die gelernte Schneiderin ist es jedoch sicher nicht speziell genug.

Ce livre est un must pour toute couturière amateur ou plus avancée .Excellent pour la clarté de sa présentation sa facilité de comprehension même si vous ne parlez pas l'anglais; vous comprenez grace à une richesse d'illustration de qualité.Nancy était et sera toujours la référence pour ces raisons.C'était une excellente pédagogue disparue trop tôt hélas!Ce livre très complet surclasse tous les livres du même genre plus récents mais trop chichiteux,à mon gout, et qui ne vont pas à l'essentiel :se mettre à la place aussi bien d'une débutante qu'une couturière avancée

This book is good value compared to purchasing all three included books separately but, as adorable as Nancy Zieman was, it’s very American-female oriented and relies mostly on working with commercial patterns. The first part, “Sew with confidence”, contains lots of general tips available in many other books by different authors and Youtube videos (also from Nancy’s TV show, which can be found there), apart from the usual fabric, tools and notions recommendations that can be found anywhere else. The second book included, “Serge with confidence” is probably better as explanations and examples are pretty clear and sergers are usually feared by sewists, so Nancy’s approach to the topic makes it friendlier. The last part, “Pattern fit with confidence” is only useful for female clothing sewists who -again- work exclusively with commercial patterns. Overall, it’s not wasted money as the book is still useful -some techniques and tips are still applicable for any clothing style or gender-,and Nancy’s sweet and friendly style makes it a good read, but not imprescindible.
