desertcart.com: My, Oh My-A Butterfly! All About Butterflies (The Cat in the Hat's Learning Library): 9780375828829: Rabe, Tish, Ruiz, Aristides, Mathieu, Joe: Books Review: A Classroom Favorite! - "My Oh My, a Butterfly!" by Dr. Seuss is a fantastic, fun-filled book that I used in my classroom to teach my students about butterflies, and it was a huge hit! Itโs both educational and entertaining, with all the trademark charm of Dr. Seussโs whimsical rhymes and colorful illustrations. โ What I Love: Perfect for Young Learners: This book is ideal for young children, especially when introducing them to the fascinating world of butterflies. The simple language and repetitive rhythm make it easy for even the youngest students to follow along and enjoy. Engaging and Interactive: The book does a fantastic job of describing the life cycle of a butterfly in a way that is both engaging and easy to understand. It encourages curiosity about nature, which is exactly what I wanted to spark in my classroom. Bright, Beautiful Illustrations: The illustrations are classic Dr. Seuss โ bold, colorful, and full of life! They kept my studentsโ attention and helped them visualize what they were learning about. The pictures of the butterflies are vibrant and detailed, making the concept come to life in an exciting way. Great for Pre-Learning Activities: Before we began our butterfly observation project, where we watched caterpillars turn into butterflies, this book served as a perfect introduction. It laid the foundation for our discussions and hands-on activities. The students were excited to see the transformation after reading about it! โ Why Itโs Perfect for Classroom Use: Educational and Fun: My students loved the catchy rhymes, and it sparked tons of questions and conversation about nature, animals, and the environment. Inspiring Curiosity: After reading this, my students were eager to learn more about butterflies. We even did a butterfly craft activity where they got to create their own butterflies, and they were so excited to see the life cycle unfold before their eyes with the caterpillars we had in the classroom. โ ๏ธ A Tiny Note: Short and Sweet: While the book is perfect for younger kids, some may find it a bit short for more advanced readers. But for early learners, itโs just the right length! Final Thoughts: "My Oh My, a Butterfly!" is an absolute gem for introducing young students to the amazing world of butterflies. The engaging Seuss-style rhymes and vivid illustrations make it the perfect way to kick off a butterfly unit in the classroom. My students were fascinated, and it created the perfect lead-in for our hands-on butterfly project. Highly recommend for any teacher or parent looking to inspire a love of nature in their little ones! Review: The kid loves it, and even I learned some things! - I bought this book for a 10 year old special needs child (her reading level is probably about that of a 5 or 6 year old). This was perfect for her. It is an excellent match for her reading level because most of the words are easy enough that she likes to read it to others, yet there are still many words for her to learn so we help her with those. She loves it when we read it to her too. I bought this book to accompany the Insect Lore Live Butterfly Garden (also bought from desertcart) for raising live butterflies from caterpillars. They really made the perfect pair (I even wrapped them together). I wanted her to be able to anticipate and recognize each stage as they go through their changes. She sure understands the stages now! This book takes you through each step of their life-cycle, plus gives many other fun facts about butterflies. It shows what several kinds of butterflies look like (including the Painted Lady Butterfly, which is what you get in the Butterfly Garden kit), and even discusses the fascinating migration of the Monarchs. Even I learned some things, and I was not expecting that! But the best thing about this book is that she loves it so much and it is encouraging her to read. Her mom is also impressed and now thinks she should get more Cat in the Hat books. What more could I ask for?

Perfect addition to the butterfly kit!
This book is wonderful! I gave my grandson a butterfly kit for Christmas. I ordered this book to go along with it. This book is true Dr. Seuss. Entertain and Educational! We have read this book many times and I feel like I am a caterpillar expert.

Educational too!
This book our 2.5 year old grandson asks us to read to him over and over. It is entertaining in true Seuss style but it is also very informative about butterfly development. Love this book!

Well-written and educational
These book is narrated in a typical Cat in the Hat manner (rhymes), includes witty lines and is a good educational source on butterflies. It could feel a little too long for a good night reading for a toddler, but kids 4+ who are actively interested in butterflies will likely find it engaging.

Good presentation, but not as well done as others in the series
Our family is a huge fan of the Cat in the Hat learning library. We own several of these books, including two others by Trish Rabe. Generally these books sparkle with vivid descriptions, interesting illustrations, and amazing facts. Generally speaking, this book does the same; however, with this one I just was not as impressed as I have been in the past. I was hoping for a lot more technical knowledge about butterflies for my curious children. Also, the prose just seems a bit clunkier than it has been with others in this series. Overall I would still give it four stars for the amount of information presented. It just seems as though the writer ran out of things to talk about. For a topic as captivating as metamorphosis, I found this surprising, Despite my apparent fussiness, this is still probably one of the better light-hearted reference books on the subject. You just may want to supplement with another, more dense book. Still love the cat in the hat learning library!
