I am using this as a potassium replacement for electrolyte balances. It is mixed with other electrolytes and flavoring in water. So the flavor isn’t terribly important, however the bottle does have a strong scent of Oregano. The packager needs to make sure that whatever spice is packaged prior to the cream of tartar gets thoroughly cleaned out of the machinery. There are tiny black flakes scattered throughout the white powder. This has not influenced my decision to rebuy, but it would likely make a difference if you were using the cream of tartar for baking.

After opening the product and scooping out a measured teaspoon of powder, I poured the powder into a bowl. I immediately noticed a strong scent that was identical to that of oregano. I looked closely at and sniffed the bottle of Castle Foods Cream of Tartar directly. I was overwhelmed by the scent of oregano! After pouring about an inch out of the bottle and into the sink, I sniffed the bottle again. The strong odor continued. The product in the bottle is white and powdery, but either it is not cream of tartar, the bottle has been used before for oregano, or the bottle is defective.
