A Pirates Adventure for all ages!
This adventure is about a real person,a fourteen year old boy,Charles Nathan Tilton, my great-great grandfather. An outstanding story written by Evelyn Hilton on the actual events of Charles being kidnapped off an American whaler and taken to Galveston Island. A thorough and well researched story comes to life as we read of his years spent with Jean Lafitte and also of his later years. Many years of family history and research was devoted by Hilton to produce an exciting and historical tale of the faith and courage of a young man that persevered through troubled times. I remember the stories from my mother, aunts and uncles and have seen the fields as a child where Little Lost Lake once was and is the final resting place of a pirate ship. Enjoy this well-told account of our ancestor's life. I recommend it for any age! Susan Gill Radle -Lubbock,Texas

Awesome, thank you for the book my great-great-grandfather!
Charles Tilton was my great-great-grandfather. Thank you for writing this book and these are stories told to me by his grandson (and several of his sisters) whom I was lucky enough to meet (my great-grandfather and great-aunts). My grandfather wrote the state of Texas and had a historical marker at the Tilton cemetery that states he was Lafitte's boatswain's mate. I don't know much about historical authenticity or proof but, I believe much of this is accurate based on stories my great-grandfather and grandmother, aunts, etc. all told me.

Gift for grandson
Oh boy! Was this a grand idea for my grandson. He's so into pirates, and I like to get him true stories of real life pirates so he won't grow up thinking Life is fiction and make-believe. Real life is many times much more exciting than fiction. He loves the book. It's just what a 12-year old can enjoy.

Not thoroughly researched
While this book might be entertaining for young readers, it should not be represented as a true story. Much of the story has yet to be proved. Errors abound, such as Benjamin being the first born child of Charles Tilton, when in fact, he had three older siblings. More research should be required for a "true" story.

is my 4th great grandfather. It's a good children's book
I am sure I am biased on this due to the fact Charles Tilton, the cabin boy, is my 4th great grandfather. It's a good children's book, very informative.

Fiction
This book is strictly a fictious account of the life of, Charles Nathan Tilton. The story is full of historical and geographical inaccuracies. Jean Laffite's so called red house was not known as MOULIN Rouge pp.67 and 86. Lost Lake in Chambers County Texas is still very much in existance. Charles Tilton was never proven to have been with Laffite. The Tilton family will dislike this book.Jean L. Epperson
