Excellent Lawn Mower
I spent over a month researching corded electric mowers before purchasing the BEMW213 Black and Decker lawn mower. I owned a previous model B&D mower that lasted almost 20 years and the motor finally gave out. I read through all the reviews, good and bad, about this mower and have to admit I was apprehensive about purchasing it as the negative reviews were quite powerful. But much to my surprise and joy, B&W has made great strides in producing an outstanding mower. I have nothing negative to say about this mower! Here are the top 10 good points: 1. Easy to assemble, takes about 5 minutes from out of the box 2. The varying height of the front and back wheels makes for a much easier job of manuvering the mower 3. The starting mechanism works very well and is easy to use 4. The cord does not get in the way of the path you are mowing 5. There are six different height positions for the cut of the grass 6. The bag is easy to attach and empty 7. The mulching tool is effective and easy to use 8. The engine is very powerful and cuts even high grass without slowing down 9. The unit is light and easy to handle 10. Easy to clean and put away after use

Would not buy again.
1. I bought this lawnmower in March 2025. It stopped working in July 2025. The electric motor makes a high pitched swirling noise, but the lawnmower blade does not turn. White smoke comes out of the motor. 2. The removable attachment to direct grass out the side of the lawnmower is flimsy, falls off, and will not stay in place. When the mower was working, I had to stop several times to reattach the device. 3. When I first was assembling the mower out of the box, I had difficulty attaching the handle to the body. In the absence of a helper, I had to use duct tape to hold the handle in place while trying to attach it to the body. Also, the handle is way too long, and adjusting the length was impossible.

A few things...
I've been a home owner for a few years now and I've gone through a few electrical weed whackers and mowers. I've had corded and I've also had battery operated ones. Out of them all, I've had the best luck with corded mowers and weed whackers. Out of those, I've had the best luck with Black+Decker. The corded devices delivered more consistent power when compared to battery operated ones. The cords were annoying until you got used to them and I've found that starting on the yard that's closest to the the power outlet worked the best. As you move further away from the outlet and the cord "spools" out, it doesn't tend to be in the way as much. I occasionally have to move the cord out of the way, but it's not that bad. Also, when I'm mowing or weed whacking, I find that using a steady and "easy" motion the best. ie. Not faster than a slow walk. For the mowers, going down a line and then backing the mower up along it's path worked the best. Kind of like when you use a vacuum cleaner. You'll get the cleanest cutting path and will be less likely to have rough patches. My yard is a hodge podge of different types of grass from years of me experimenting to see which types of grass I liked better, weeds that grew in between and into the different patches, and finally from me giving up on trying to find the "perfect" type of grass to have. So it's quite "cosmopolitan" if you get my meaning. So all the mowers and whackers I've used over the years have gotten quite a workout. Having said all that, here is my review on this mower. Pros - Love the power and compactness of it. The design of the blade is a joy and I like how it whips up the grass/weeds into itself for a more even cut. The power of the motor is very much in evidence. My last mower was the smaller version. It had a less powerful motor and smaller AoE. Folded up, this new mower folded up smaller than my older mower! Cons - The mower is light. I'd have to say too light even. Some types of grass are very compact and can hold up quite a bit of weight. My last mower I ended up having to put about 30lbs of weights onto it to help make sure it sank down far enough so that it could get a good cut on some of the more dense patches of grass I have like emerald zoysia. Sadly, that led to "bad" spots on those patches that took time to grow over. Once it greened over and I got it used to being that short, everything was fine as long as I maintained my regularly scheduled mowing. The blade isn't replaceable? This one I'm not 100% sure on as I thought I remembered seeing a posting saying that it wasn't? I don't recall seeing a replacement blade for sale anywhere though when I looked. I like to have a few replacement parts on hand for stuff that I think might need it down the line. Like the blade itself. The mower is not really "to the edge". The wheel base is wide. It almost looks like a go-cart. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as it's actually a better idea to use an edger to get tight spots and the edges of the yard. Some folks might be disappointed though that the mower can't cut all the way to the edge of their yards. Suggestions - Either make the mower heavier and/or make the wheels have a smaller "profile". Almost the entire body of the mower is a hard plastic. Makes it light as heck, but is actually bad for denser grasses. The mower "rides" on top of the grass instead of sinking down far enough to get a good cut. If the body was heavier that'd help. The wheels are a little wide and also made of plastic (again, super light). If the wheels had a smaller profile, they'd sink into denser grass more. Maybe a combination of the two would work best? Also, I recall a comment made that this mower doesn't roll well across mud because it's so light? I'd like to kindly remind that soul that, after all is said and done, it's a corded electrical device!!! What the heck are you doing trying to use a corded electrical device in mud!!! Let me guess, you're also the type of person that thinks it's ok to use a hair dryer while in the bath/shower?!?

A Good Choice for an Electric Mower
I purchased this lawnmower to cut a 4000 sq ft city lot which is partially on a grade and contains several landscaping features. The plastic deck appears to be sturdy enough and the lighter weight makes the mower easy to maneuver around objects and on slopes. The wheels are inset so that the mower can cut very close to objects in the yard. However, you will still need a trimmer to complete the job. The mower is capable of handling tall grass as long as you don't try to push it too fast. I use it as a mulching mower, and it does a good job of mincing the grass although there is a small amount of grass leakage around the mulch plug on the rear flap. The only operating issue is that the run bar is stiff and if you don't keep a tight grip the mower will shut off. Assembly is easy; I had this mower out of the box and ready to run in five minutes. One observation is that I am almost 6 ft tall, and I had to attach the upper handle at the lowest position to put it at a comfortable level. A shorter person might find the run bar to be positioned too high. It is very easy to change the mowing height with the adjustment lever.

Given an appropriate extension cord, this thing is impressive.
I'l start out by saying I'm lazy and don't mow the lawn more than once every 2-3 months honestly. In FL, during the rainy season, this is obviously not a good idea. The lawn is an absolute jungle. I have a proper 10gauge/3conductor 100ft extension cord that weighs more than the mower, so I thankfully don't run into any power loss from the cable heating up or being undersized. I've seen comments this is basically necessary, so if you have issues with yours, be sure to spend the extra on a "big boy" cord. On the shorter settings (1-3) it definitely gets bogged down on thick or wet grass. It's doable on setting 4. 5 and 6 are no problem. The shortest couple of settings scalp the lawn (which can be useful for certain things like overseeding, but you won't catch me putting in that kind of effort). If it gets bogged down, it's such a light mower that even my short 110lb self is able to easily rock it back as far as I need to to free it up before it seizes. That's all I ever really have to do to make sure it keeps running. I make some effort to not overwork it as I don't want the motor to get too hot; but no extravagant effort. I did have to add a sort-of cable clip to keep the extension cord wrapped around the bar and plugged in. The cable clips that come with it probably don't fit anything larger than a standard extension cord. I used them all to neatly tuck away the short cord that's on the unit itself. Fighting the cable here and there depending on the shape of your yard is inevitable, and you have to make sure you don't run it over obviously, but overall it's not too bad to deal with. Worth it IMO to skip on filling or starting a regular gas mower. The option to start and stop the mower right away without effort is nice. It's significantly quieter than a gas mower, although it's far from silent. I'd argue it's a fair bit louder than a vacuum cleaner. You'll still want to wear earplugs or some earbuds with music going, but it's not terrible. The bag mode is a pain; don't bother. Mulching mode works ok although I wish it chopped it up a bit finer and didn't build up in the closed bagging port as much as it does. It's not as strong as a gas mower, but that really hasn't been an issue for me; any regularly mowed lawn will be a breeze. Overall, bless electricity. Edit: Like another review mentioned, the handle that you must press to turn/keep the unit on broke. Took it apart, bolted some metal to it, glued the plastic pieces together, and it's limping along. That part is certainly not the best design.
