No there isn`t. Not great as the bits fall out and the dust gets in. My granddaughter loves it though so maybe a makeshift lid when its not being played with :-)

Would a 5 year old enjoy this or is it for a younger audience?

It’s a toy that covers a wide age angle. Under fives enjoy the different combinations without any real sense of logic. Our seven year old tries to achieve ‘that look’.

do they have boy or gender neutral sets?

This one is based on occupations so although it's a female it has all different jobs. There is a boy version which has costumes like a superhero, pirate etc and there is a girly one with dance outfits and dresses etc
