great short stories
This is a recent collection of short stories,of which most have a twist in the tail. The French is up to date with a considerable use of slang. Very witty anecdotes are sprinkled with hometruths. The only downer is that the back of the book shows a price of 4.80 euros (about $7) but it costs $15.15 from Amazon !!

Engaging Short Stories set in France
I thoroughly enjoyed these brief tales of men and women living in Paris or outlying areas. Each is told from a first person perspective which lends an intimacy and emotional salience to each main character's story. Highly recommended - even if French is a second language.

In great shape!
This book was in excellent shape. it looked pretty much new. This book is good for anyone who wants a copy that is in excellent shape with no writings or scratches.

Couldn't go further!
In the last sentence of the first paragraph of the first story, the word "tellement" is written as "telllllement." I couldn't get beyond that point. Kept thinking, "how many more typos are there?" Did absolutely no one check the proofs? Sloppy!

too much slang, going nowhere mostly in the stories

a reader
All very accomplished short stories. These have already been described by the reviewers before me. There is so much variety some are poignant everyday situations others humorous. They all hit a nerve. I found them fascinating as I do read contemporary french literature in french and was delighted by Anna Gavalda's use of colloquial french even though I had to look in the dictionary for help. It helps to keep you 'ear' for the spoken word.

Contemporary short stories on varied themes
A collection of short stories with great diversity of setting and theme. I initially feared that they would suffer by being too laconic and colloquial but in fact the language was quite varied in style too and in aggregate the stories were memorable and involving, if not always entirely plausible.

Easy to read but quite short!
I was expecting more content but the small stories are very interesting and well written. Easy to read and proper French style!

thought-provoking and re-readable
I have always enjoyed Anna Gavalda's novels, but this collection of short stories stands out: a beautifully written set of vignettes of life, which are very thought-provoking and re-readable. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an enthralling set of short stories, or wanting to read some good French for pleasure.
