The White Specter Crayfish is a beautiful white variant of the Electric Blue Crayfish species (Procambarus alleni). Though most crayfish are often reclusive by nature, this particular crayfish is very active and spends plenty of time exploring the aquarium floor and feeding on whatever they can find. They will eat most any meaty or plant-based foods, and they may also eat live plants. If you have tall decorations in your tank, we recommend keeping a low water line, keeping your crayfish in a deep aquarium, or looking into aquarium hoods, as large crayfish may attempt to escape the aquarium frame. As it reaches adulthood, this crayfish may behave aggressively towards other animals in the tank. It is important to provide hiding places, such as PVC pipes or an aquarium hammock. This is even more crucial when housing multiple crayfish in the same tank; the general rule with large crayfish is 30 gallons per crayfish, so you may need an xxl aquarium if you plan to keep several of them. Crayfish will typically eat whatever they can catch, but since they are slow moving, they are not often able to harm fast-swimming fish. Bottom dwelling animals should be avoided, since crayfish are bottom dwellers. Large crayfish may be a threat to snails, such as Japanese trapdoor snails (aka trap door snails), Golden Mystery Snail, etc. This set is for a breeding pair of crayfish. A female crayfish will release not just one egg, but up to 400 eggs in one birth!
