Orion StarMax 90mm Mak-Cass Telescope and Tripod Bundle

It’s amazingly compact, simple to use, and it finds the target every time- and quickly!

My husband’s face lit up like a little kid when I gave this to him. This was fairly easy to set up and he enjoyed viewing craters with the moon filter. Not sure how portable it is for most users, but he carts it in and out often and doesn’t complain. Good purchase.

I ordered this scope as a Christmas present this past season and it is very nice. It has a good wooden alt-az mount, which can sit on a table top. It also has a great feature in that the bottom of the mount has a threaded hole so it can be mounted on a tripod (included in this kit). Both the scope and tripod are very lightweight and can easily be placed in the car to go to dark locations. I'll also note that the telescope tube itself also has a tripod mount threaded hole on it, for alternative mounting options. (I haven't explored these yet, but it looks useful down the road.)This kit includes three lenses (25mm, 10mm, and 6.3mm) and a very easy to use finder scope, though I have yet to get it fully adjusted. (That, however, is probably on me, not the scope!) Images are corrected to be right side up, but they are still left-right reversed. So keep that in mind for daytime usage. For astronomy, it is a little weird to be half-corrected, but you get used to it very quickly.The only shortcoming, and the reason for not giving it a full 5 stars, is that the overall design is just too wobbly. Mounted or sitting on a table top, it is impossible to focus while seeing anything. Many scopes share this fault, though. But you end up playing a game of:adjust -> pause (to stop wobbling) -> adjust -> pause -> repeat...until you can see clearly. As I said, not unique to this scope, but annoying and surely worth one star.But still a very nice serious beginner's scope.

This is a fantastic little scope. Great for those nights when you don't want to carry out the heavy scopes. Clear, fantastic images and suprisingly high light-gathering ability for such a small piece.

So far so good!!!! It was not hard to set up once you read the instructions!! We have not had a clear night since I have it to my boyfriend for his bday on Mother's Day. So hopefully soon!! I wish they made a case for it. We would love to bring it camping and know the traveling is safe.
