You Never Thought to See That Look Was in his Eyes
After years of waiting, NECA has finally given us an Ultimate figure based on the copycat Jason from Friday the 13th Part 5. I never thought this'd happen and I'm so excited it has. It seemed like the retro cloth figure was all we were going to get but for the final release in NECA's Ultimate Friday the 13th line, NECA has given us Roy. Does he live up the the hype? I think so.Sculpt:This figure mainly reuses parts from NECA's previous 2018 Michael Myers. This shouldn't come as a big surprise. Roy and Michael have a very similar attire after all. The only new parts are the rubber torso overlay, the shoes, and the headsculpt. What a headsculpt it is! The likeness to actor Dick Wieand is one of NECA's best. NECA has utilized the faceprinting previously seen on Hasbro and Bandai of Japan figures to great effect here. His expression is perfect too. Roy is making the solemn yet also angry thousand yard stare he made when he saw his poor son with an ax in his back. It's the perfect choice of expression for the character. He's also wearing the hood that makes it look like he has Jason's bulbous head when the hockey mask comes on. It even has the ax wound scar! That Roy, such a stickler for details except when it comes to the actual outfit and mask Jason wore. The hood also has a different texture and color than Roy's actual face, as it should. The rest of the sculpt is good, if unremarkable. It's just a boiler suit after all. One interesting detail is that Roy has the wound in his stomach when Reggie the Reckless rammed that tractor into him. Some people might like this addition, others might hate it since they'd prefer a clean Roy instead. Me personally? I don't care either way. The wound is a nice way to further differentiate this body from Michael Myers at least.Scale:I'm not sure of the exact metrics, but Roy is pretty tall. Probably too tall, even! This is down to reusing parts from Michael Myers. He's taller than Parts 3 and 4 Jason which definitely doesn't feel right. I honestly thought NECA made their Michael too tall already so Roy inherits that problem from him. Some people might say he shouldn't reuse parts from Michael for this, but let's be real if they didn't reuse parts from Michael we wouldn't have this figure at all. Aside from the height, the reuse works extremely well. He's also not tall enough to be completely egregious and most people probably aren't sticklers for scale quite like I am. He isn't even that much taller than both of the previous Jasons (maybe by like a couple millimeters at best) and he's shorter than Remake Jason and especially FvJ Jason so it's not that big of a deal. Worth noting, though. I'd say he still fits into NECA's 7 inch scale pretty well.Articulation:Do you have the NECA 2018 Michael Myers? Same base mold, same articulation. For those that don't, here's a quick rundown. He's got the standard NECA ball and socket joint for the head, arms that hinge outwards and move forward, double jointed elbows with swivels at both ends, import style balljoints for wrist articulation, an ab crunch hidden under the torso overlay, legs that hinge outwards and move forward, a thigh swivel, single jointed knees, and feet that swivel at the top of the balljoint, hinge upward and downward in the middle, and have a nice ankle pivot at the bottom. Great articulation but the lack of any real way to swivel the lower body is definitely a detriment. An unavoidable detriment due to the sculpt but it is missed.Paint:Roy has pretty good paint. There's a small bit of white paint that leaked onto his lower right eyelid I think, but that's such a minor flub I can't say I mind. His mask is perfectly painted from the front, with the two blue chevrons rather than the three red chevrons Jason is usually depicted with. From the back, the mask is entirely blue! I'm not sure if this is accurate, we never get a look inside Roy's hockey mask, but it's an odd choice. I'm not sure if the blue is paint or the base plastic. The varying shades of it makes me say it's paint. If so, I definitely worry about some of the blue paint rubbing off onto Roy when you put the mask on and off of his face. One more thing to note is that NECA chose the perfect color for Roy's coveralls. There's a great debate whether Roy wore a blue or green jumpsuit in the movie. Officially it's confirmed to be green but due to the lighting, the suit comes off as blue. This figure recreates that look perfectly. The suit is a dark teal-ish green but in the right lighting, it looks blue. Kudos to whoever chose this color scheme at NECA, it should satisfy both parties of the debate.Accessories:Roy is PACKED to the brim with weapons and accessories. One of the best and most unique weapons load outs of any Ultimate Jasons. He has hedge clippers, a big pole-like spike, a far smaller railroad spike, a cleaver, a knife, a tree branch, a belt that attaches to said branch, a burning road flare, and of course the machete. That's quite the selection of weapons! He also has one extra gripping hand for his left side so he can properly hold the shears and the big spike double handed. Wish more Jasons came with extra hands.Overall:Yeah, Roy is pretty good. Definitely worth the wait. NECA's sculpt has improved so much since they did the MEGO one sometime back. The likeness on this one blows that one out of the water, no doubt. It feels so surreal to have this figure. Without the reuse, it'd be a bit of a risky venture on NECA's part. They'd have to pay likeness rights to get Dick Wiend's likeness so that's already more money going into this than the standard Jason figure. Not to mention Part 5 is one of the least popular entries into the franchise thanks to this particular twist. Which I feel is unfair but a lot of people have seemingly warmed up to the movie in recent years at least. This is still a hard sell to some people and I doubt this'll sell as well as the average Jason. That's a shame because this is a great figure. One of the best Ultimates in the F13 line, even. If you have a F13 collction, I highly recommend you get Roy. On a shelf probably full of nothing but Jasons, he'll really standout. Not to mention, thanks to the current legal fiasco surrounding the franchise right now, this is going to be the last Ultimate "Jason" you're going see for a while.

Wow Roy I mean Jason lol looks great from head to toe. He’s very detailed and comes with tons of weapons. He’s mask is removable and the face underneath the mask looks just like Roy.

NECA FRIDAY THE 13TH PART V: A NEW BEGINNING - "ROY" JASON
I've been collecting the NECA Jason figures since they started making them & this F13 V: ROY "JASON" is definitely my favorite so far! The articulation, paint, accessories, literally everything about it is a step up from every other Jason they have made so far. That isn't meant to knock the Jason's NECA has made. I wouldn't collect them if I didn't think they were great! Anyway, I highly recommend this to the collectors out there and / or Friday The 13th fans. You won't be disappointed! A+++
