Stephen Hawking: A Biography

Our readership canceled the possibility of including this in our book selections for the coming year; it seems they did not know
Our members chose not to include this book into our coming selections for the coming year in the Book Club. It seemsthe vast majority either knew nothing about him or, worse, did not care. He is quite a marvel. This paperback book is on hand so I will carefully read it soon - but till then am busily reading all possible books to be included. For all his infirmities, he is still very much a person of intellect and vital discovery in his everyday life. We scan possible incoming books to see they are appropriate for our retired teacher membership, so we have a speaking knowledge of the book contents. We also try to have hardcover books that are passed by our 24 members. We buy all possible and actual books for the Club from Amazon.

Enjoyed the Book
This book is well written, and informative. I enjoyed it. Only down side is trying to understand the theories that Hawkings and others deal with. Black holes and the like. The explanations were decent, just to far out there for me to grasp. Do not let this stop you from reading this book though, as the idea is to understand the man and his life, more so than the theoretical physics.

Good Book
This is a very good book about one of the most brilliant mind of our time. It is a fascinating insight into Hawking's life. It is inspirational in that with all he has and is going through personally, he is still a major force in the field of Physics.Very well written.

Book arrived on time and the story is what I expected. A great summary of Mr. Hawking's life
The book is well written and easy to read. It delves into Mr. Hawking's triumphs as well as tragedies. A good book for anyone who wants to know more about the series of events that shaped Mr. Hawking's life.

Lifting the curtain......
Lifts the curtain on Stephen Hawkings life, see his human side, that he's just like everyone else, but, Hawkings is nothing like anyone else. A brilliant mind, seething with a tsunami of knowledge, wisdom, and theory.

Great book
I have read all of Hawkings books but knew little about the man. He may be the greatest scientist since Einstein, but it is good to read about his personal life as well.

oh for a black hole to throw myself into after this!
I find the life and work of Professor Hawking fascinating - hence this purchase. However, this book shows the perils of buying online. If I had looked at it in a shop I would have hastily put it back on the shelf! I waded through three chapters before throwing it to the ground in disgust. Why? It is a biography of an English icon but not only does it read like rehashed sentences from other biographies but, most off-putting of all, is written by an American for Americans and every teensy bit of common knowledge is described to the nth degree as if revealing some arcane mystery. I had to suppress several small screams of anguish!!I was going to say I hated it but felt that was a bit mean. I am sure some people will like it. I think I will donate my copy to a charity shop!
