🗡️ Sharpen Your Edge with Naniwa's Finest!
- The straightening whetstone quickly corrects trough on the whetstone - You can use emery for a more beautiful and faster finish - Particulate density 220 Review: this is maintenace for sharpening stone. - This product is intended for the maintenance of sharpening stones, so it may not be necessary for everyone. However, if you have purchased a Japanese whetstone, we highly recommend getting this as well. It is used to keep the surface of the whetstone flat and properly maintained. Review: Easy to use for flattening water stones - I have used a full sheet of 120 or 220 grit waterproof silicone carbide sandpaper on a piece of 12”x12” 1/2 inch plexiglass to flatten my water stones for 40+ years. Over all those years I’ve probably spent 50 times the cost of this Naniwa stone on silicone carbide sand paper. The sandpaper method works OK but it’s annoying for a bunch of reasons so I finally broke down and bought this Naniwa flattening stone. The Naniwa is faster than my old method, easier to use and store and the Naniwa leaves a nice finish on all my stones. The Atoma 140 diamond plate is the best tool for flattening but it’s expensive. My only “con” is that I wish it was about 25 % larger. Naniwa makes a bigger flattening stone but it’s about $70. If I need a stone that big, I’ll revert to my full sheet of silicone carbide sand paper and plexiglas. Attached is a photo of the Naniwa stone (black) next to my tan 50 year old King 6000 grit water stone. Hope that helps!

Works Great!
Leveled out my 5+ year old synthetic stone with this in a matter of minutes. Suddenly, my knives keep their edge about 4x longer than before! I'm a professional line cook, so those knives and that stone see a lot of action. I was also able to use the rough backside of this stone to put an edge on a hopelessly dull old pocket knife!

Great stone with one oddity
The stone is great, it is indeed an authentic Naniwa stone. The issue is had was the box being greasy. No idea why a sharpening or flattening stone would be greasy... but other than that oddity it worked well. The stone wasn't greasy and works as expected!

Flatness -- get two stones
This stone did not come flat. I guess you have to buy two of them and face them on each other. EDIT: I am ordering a second of these stones. I am sure that for the price of a second stone this will be a FIVE STAR product. The finish it leaves on a 6k grit waterstone is very nice. Also, if you happen to like a crowned stone, the slight warp in this stone will give you a nice shallow crown.

Good Stone, but might be luck of the draw
Unlike some other reviews for this product, mine arrived in perfect condition, not broken at all. I used it to flatten a 1000/6000 stone, and it worked beautifully. I didn't develop any sunken portions of the stone as has been reported in other reviews. This leads me to believe it was technique on the part of others (not trying to be critical of them here however). One thing to know is that I'm pretty new to stone sharpening, so if you've been sharpening knives for longer than a year or two, take this review with a grain of salt. Another concern was the longevity of the stone, but after repairing my pretty badly worn out whetstone, It had barely put a dent in this flatting stone. I think it should remain good for me for a couple of years at the least. It does seem like the quality the stone arrives in can vary between purchases, so that might be up to fate. Mine arrived just fine. Overall, I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

I was a bit alarmed with people saying there's was not flat and true. I trust the brand so ordered anyway, mine is spot on true and flat. Used it on 230 through to 12000 grit stones and it preformed perfectly. Quick word of warning don't use it to bevel the edges of the stone, I now have a neat one millimeter groove down the length of mine. It hasn't spoilt it's preformance, in fact I think it probably helps clear the slurry. After doing eight stones, some of which were quite dished it's still perfectly flat and apart from the afore mentioned groove shows no signs of wear. If you do get a stone that's off flat just take it outside with a bucket of water and rub it on a concrete paving slab, we have some in our garden.. Soon sorts it out, can do your sharpening stones the same way but you risk embedding concrete particles. I've been sharpening for years, over fifty and feel confident to highly recommend this stone.

Works perfectly, ive flattened 4 different stones, can take some time, but good quality compared to others I've used.

J'avais une pierre à eau bien tordue à force des aiguisages réguliers de mes couteaux de cuisine. En une vingtaine de minutes je l'ai redressée et elle est comme neuve. Un super produit pour compléter sa panoplie d'entretien.
