Great resource to Italian Italian

Was asked to get this for a beginners class and its not an easy book to get through, some of the descriptions and exercise are very vague and don't make much sense, one question asks to spell your name out using Italian cities? Struggling to see how this is relevant, complete waste of money in my opinion
