Mr. Putter & Tabby Pick the Pears

My wife and I are grandparents, and one of our joys is reading to our grandchildren. None of them live nearby, so most of the chances we have do read are via video calls.We have many different Mr Putter and Tabby books. Cynthia Rylant is a joy as a children's author. The stories are engaging and fun for children and adults.The books are also just the right length for reading through for our kid crew (oldest is 5 yrs).And if you like these, you should also check out Rylant's Henry and Mudge series!

I used these as readers for my late 1st grader/early 2nd grader. I love how many series Cynthia Rylant has done on different reading levels, and Mr. Putter and Tabby were as fun as the others we have used. I have found that my children learn to read better when they love the characters, and they always love Cynthia Rylant's characters. In these books, the characters are cautious Mr. Putter, his very sanguine neighbor Mrs. Teaberry, and their pets, which suit them each perfectly. Each story is gentle and fun. Mr. Putter grits his teeth and goes with Mrs. Teaberry's newest wild scheme, her dog Zeke is crazy, his cat Tabby wants to rest, and Mrs. Teaberry bakes him wonderful goodies. They are kind to each other, and he reminisces about boyhood days... really sweet stories. My son told me when we were going through all of these that reading was his favorite time of day.If you haven't delved into Cynthia Rylant's many series for many reading levels, you can do a google search to figure out which one might work best for where your child's skill level is.

My granddaughter loves it. It was easy fr her to read, and she enjoys the Mr. Putter series. I'll be getting more of them for her.

Choosing between the individual Mr. Putter & Tabby books is just one stressor you do not need, especially since once you've read one, you're going to NEED to read them all. Even just for the illustrations.Just buy them all and chuckle your way to happiness!We probably own almost all of the Mr. Putter and Tabby books. Initially I bought them for myself (if you have a cat...), but other more age-appropriate members of the household have adopted them, learned to read on them, now read novels...and still, they will not give them back!The stories are sweet and the illustrations (especially of Tabby) cannot be compared. If you love cats, or their diabolical ways, buy this for the illustrations alone; you will not be disappointed.We all hope to reach "old age" one day - I hope I have a good cat and it is this much fun! And may we never truly grow up (in a good way).

If you have never purchased a series for your children, Get this series, great for ages 3 to 8, Great read-a-louds to children who are not yeat reading at a strong 2nd grade level. Great early chapter books for 2nd grade readers.These books are so touching, great, kind stories, with a touch of silliness. You can feel how Mr. Putter feels during the story. You always feel happy for Mr. Putter at the end of the story. I always feel like I want to be their with him enjoying his good time.How Cynthia Rylant can turn a simple subject like pickig pears to make Jelly into feeling like you have been on a wonderful adventure is a gift few writters have. I highly recommend all these stories for boys and girls.

I love all of the Mr. Putter books, but this one is a particular favorite. I’m happy to add to my collection with a library bound book.

Have to love this author. My son loves Henry and Mudge and I got excited when I found Mr Putter and Tabby books. The books are fun to read and great cuddle time before bed. My son loves reading these to me or me to him. Have to say after reading Pick the Pears, we ended up buying over half of them. The rest of the series will wait to Christmas to purchase...

This quiet and reflective series of stories about a gentle person and his cat is the perfect antidote to the very noisy and hectic lives many children are subjected to . Just right for a bedtime story but at any time really . I use the series in school helping "slow" readers . Even the most gadget -minded youngsters seem to respond to the situations - some quite" everyday" that Mr Putter has to deal with !
