Raw Meaty Bones: Promote Health Review: An educated and logical way to feed pets! - I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Dr. Tom Lonsdale while he was teaching his "Raw Meaty Bones" seminar at Emory University. Tom gives excellent information that gives you very logical and scientific reasons to feed a natural diet, much like the dog's wild ancestors ate. This book will open your eyes! It will teach you to feed your animals in a way that may have never occurred to you before. You'll be surprised how efficiently your animals will consume their meals, and how completely your animal can digest bones. The most noticeable improvement you will notice when feeding this diet, is that "doggie breath" eventually disappears. Feeding fresh raw carcasses has an extremely beneficial effect on oral hygiene in pets. There are many, many internet support groups for feeding your pet a "raw meaty bone" diet. You can buy this diet in any grocery store, or you may prefer to buy in bulk through a buying co-op or at a wholesale meat supplier. This is a very cost-efficient way of feeding, because your animal will consume a lot less food overall. Try to avoid the pre-packaged raw diets if you can. Although they have many benefits, they do not provide proper oral stimulation, and will not clean your pet's teeth. They also do not support local growers and businesses, which is so important in the current sluggish economy. Tom Lonsdale is a long-practicing veterinarian, who has dedicated his life to promoting a natural way of feeding pets. I thought that Dr. Lonsdale was a very sincere, compassionate man, whose goal in teaching his diet principals, was to truly promote the best interests of our companion animals. I will hope you will read this book, and apply the knowledge gained from it to your own animals health and well-being. I highly recommend his book! Review: Scientifically sound. - What brought me to this book was periodontal disease in 4 of my cats and my dog. I have had pet partners all my life and never experienced this disease before. I have tried every possible commercial food that wasn't the least favorable available and still the disease did not lessen. I spoke with my vet who indicated the disease has become more prevalent and could possibly be the result of processed foods. The vet made recommendations which I tried to no avail. I kept researching and found an informed well respected dog breeder who recommended this book if anyone was interested in the subject of raw feeding. I found it very informative with sound research. I, like the dog breeder who suggested this book, am not promoting, nor disputing raw feeding. I made a choice for the health and wellbeing of my pet partners to try the raw approach. It is working for me. The cats and dog love it. One cat who had terrible dermatitis has cleared up. Another cat's food allergies have evaporated as has the dogs. Thank you to the vets and laymen who were looking for answers and shared what they discovered.

Scientifically sound.

Raw Food Diet
This book is designed for folks who are interested in feeding their dogs a natural diet. It seems to be a precusor to the Barf Diet Books. It is technical in it's approach but describes a recommended diet which takes about two sentences. For anyone who feeds this type of diet to their dogs this book gives an excellent rationale for doing so. Although currently there is a "feud" going on between the author and those involved in BARF diets. In my opinion they are basically the same and only differ at the fringes.

How to feed your pet the right diet, and much more
Feeding pets raw meaty bones keeps their teeth clean, gums healthy, and prevents the common chronic illnesses pets suffer today, such as cancers, heart, kidney, and auto-immune diseases. By feeding the diet dogs and cats evolved to eat, pets do not develop infected mouths that send infection into major organs systems. If you choose to keep carnivorous pets, Tom Lonsdale's books (see also Work Wonders)explain why you must give your friendly wolves and wild cats a diet that predators need to keep their mouths and bodies healthy. If you feed commercial kibbles and canned mush, pets' teeth are coated with gummy sludge that infects thier gums and creats chronic disorders. This book is worth several reads. It's impossible to learn all the reasoning and information on one reading, in part because so much of it counters what we have been taught about pet feeding. As a breeder of Labrador retrievers, I can attest to the enormous health benefits of switching from commercial junk foods to BARF diets and finally to the right diet for dogs -- raw-meaty-bones. Not only do all those itchy skin and hot spots go away, the dogs have clean teeth and healthy gums without professional dental cleanings that often resulted in the loss of rotting teeth. The dogs have great vigor and overall health. They are happy to eat what Nature intended. To get a preview of the book and feeding raw-meaty-bones, look at Dr. Lonsdale's web site, [...]

This book is a real eye opener detailing the link between mouth disease and artificial per food consumption. I bought it because I care about my cat and only wanted to feed him what's best for him. Admittedly it feels slightly dated as the book was written before the raw feeding 'movement' took hold. Nowadays there are plenty of raw food suppliers to choose from on the internet. However, that doesn't detract from the invaluable information you can find here. It's a great book if you are new to raw feeding as it will give you the basic knowledge and confidence to get started. Best used in conjunction with a knowledgeable vet, as I have.

En general está bien, pro tiene capítulos que no tienen nada que ver con la dieta en cuestión...sería mejor que fuese al grano y se dejase de análisis de la situación y demás...

Brilliant piece of writing providing the foundation for a pet health, pet diet revolution. The follow on benefits for human medical science and natural envionment should measure in the $billions too. An early reviewer said the book was the animal equivalent of Silent Spring, the 1993 seminal work that kickstarted the environmental revolution. For our pets and our future generations Raw Meaty Bones provides a blueprint for a better future.

If you own a dog or cat, and want it to live a long, healthy life, then you must read this book! It is written by an Australian vet who has been fighting the hugely powerful pet food industry for many years, trying to re educate both the public, and even other vets. It explains in great scientific detail why commercial pet food causes so many illnesses for our pets. Think about how many dogs & cats you know with health problems, from itchy skin and bad teeth to heart problems and cancer. How many people do you know whose animals have had to be put down after illness? How many pets do you know with 'dog breath'? This is not natural at all, and is a sign of ill health. Have you been told your dog should be put under general anaesthetic every few years to have their teeth scraped clean? Does that really seem a good idea? True, as one reviewer pointed out, the book could do with a little more information on how to switch diets, but there are other books on raw food for dogs, including one by the same author which help further with that. If you need more convincing, then Google 'Andrew Lewis Pet Food Secrets' for another take on the damaging effects of shop bought pet food. This is quite a thick book, but you don't have to read every chapter - if you just read: Part I Pet Health, which is 140 pages long, you'll get all the important stuff you need to know. If you own a dog or cat, please, please do them a favour and change their diet as soon as possible!
