I have cast iron pans I've been using for over 50 years, including a Le Creuset dutch oven, and this appears to match the quality, and I expect my kids to finish out the next 50 years with this Lodge after I pass it on. Two key points. The bottom of the pan is about 10.75 in, or roughly the size of a 12" skillet. And the sides are nearly vertical and 2.5" tall. This is great for browning things without steaming, and keeping hot oil in the pan. The porcelain looks great, cleans up easily. It heat like a champ on the range and the lid works well, fits well and seals well. The handles are adequate in size. This is a piece you won't regret, and will use often. Casserole made in China. **Q: How tall is the pan without the lid on? The description says 4" but it is unclear if that is with or without the lid.** A: Mine is 4 7/8" high from bottom to top of knob on the lid. The pan is 2 1/2" deep and 12 inch diameter. Hope this is helpful. **Q: What is the difference between this 3 qt and the Lodge EC3D43 3 qt, other than almost 3 times the price?** A: The difference is in the shape. This is a shallow skillet shape while the 3 qt Dutch oven is shaped like a saucepan - deeper, smaller diameter. Both have loop handles and lids. As other reviewers have said, different shape, different uses - chops, steaks, or chicken pieces in the skillet shape, whole chickens, roasts, or casseroles in the saucepan shape. They are about the same price when ordered from Lodge. The price differences you see are due to "market forces". On Amazon anybody can sell anything at whatever price they think they can get, so if a size or color is in short supply, some sellers will up the price - sometimes to ridiculous amounts - so shop around different sellers. The other danger is that one which has a price too good to be true, probably is. Stick with reputable sellers. You may pay a bit more, but I you will get what you order, and if not they will make it right. The really bad reviews you see are from less reputable sellers, and may not even be Lodge products at all! I ordered mine through the Lodge Store on Amazon, they are a bit less than straight from Lodge, a bit more than some other Amazon sellers sometimes, but no problems! During COVID some sellers went really crazy, the prices changed every day! So if it too high, check back next week. Also, be sure to calculate TOTAL PRICE, that is price + shipping, some sellers will lowball the price, then gouge you on the shipping, so the total price is actually higher! I have (over time) bought 4 different sizes of the Dutch oven and the 3.6 braiser, my most recent acquisition - we love them all for different dishes, can't recommend them enough! I appreciate the weight of the cast iron and the quality of the product. Sautee on the stove, finish in the oven! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Versatile product at an excellent price *by S***A on February 23, 2026* I bought this to cook, transport, and serve my mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving and wasn't too sure what else I would use it for but it has actually become the pot I reach for frequently. Some stuff I have fit in here: 5 pounds of mashed potatoes (pretty full so you probably can't mash them in the dish too easily but great for reheating and cooking and serving), 2 pounds of boneless pork I was braising, almost 4 pounds of bone-in lamb leg, and a pound or so of meatballs with their sauce cooked in the dish. It's great for both the stove and the oven, pretty easy to clean even when the pan has a bunch of fond, and having the lid is useful. It's definitely not the most durable and the overall product reflects the price. I've only had it 6 months and taken pretty good care of it and even with that, it has a chip or two I've noticed. The lid is also not the tightest fit -not a problem but I would expect paying for a more "premium" brand would give you something more perfect feeling. That being said, I am happy with the purchase and assuming it lasts for a while (which I would expect it to based on my experience so far) these things are not dealbreakers. I was a little unsure what I would use this for – I have a 5.5 quart dutch oven, a stainless steel skillet/frying pan, a sauté pan, and a few other items and over the years was fine with those. I think in general this can be used for a lot of stuff I would have used a dutch oven for but more convenient due to its smaller size and the shorter, wider surface make it great for browning meat and braising it. If you have limited space or want minimal tools, I would prioritize the other 2 as I think they will cover most use cases but this is definitely a nice addition and I'm glad I bought it.
