I have been using flat irons for close to 20 years now, and this one is amazing! I was stunned by how well it worked, so much so that I had to come here to write a review--something I rarely do. I have very coarse, dense, wavy hair, but this iron straightens quickly. Don't let the price tag fool you! The results last longer than the $200 iron I got for Christmas six years ago, although it might also be that one is on its way out and it is no longer functioning at full capacity. I really can't recall. :P One of the reasons I decided on this iron over others on Amazon is that it has the automatic shut-off feature. While I rarely forget to turn off my iron, I have left my old one on at home before. Because of that, some mornings I go into work wondering if I actually did turn it off! It is nice to have the piece of mind knowing that I'm not going to unintentionally burn the place down! I went with the 1-inch iron for two reasons. I have always used a 1-inch. It might take a little longer but gives better precision styling and curling, in my unprofessional opinion. Also, I LOVE the purple! I have not used the sample oil that came with the iron. I appreciate it was included, but right now I'm all about the keratin treatment I discovered at Walmart (It's A 10 Miracle Leave-In Plus Keratin). Highly recommend for hair like mine. I bought this to be my backup iron, but I've decided to swap it out to by my main iron at home and bring my old one to my boyfriend's place. That's how much I love it! One little caveat to my review--I just got this iron and have only used it twice. I have no idea how long it will last. Like many lower-priced products, they don't tend to last as long, but as I mentioned with my $200 iron that is six years old, I have a feeling these things need to be replaced every few years with heavy use anyway.
