Looks well made
Have not yet hooked it up, so can not comment on how long it works, but the housing is more soundly made than the other small LED IR lights I have in place. Also has better adjustment ease than the units I now have working with my security cameras, the kind with the cheep stamped steel brackets that mount directly to the light like a U clamp. That said, they all have the same LED bulb count and similar bulb arrangement. The cheapies I now have mounted out at the end of the range of the cameras LED light range, extend the night viewing of the camera by the stated range of the remote LED light unit. They do seem to be more of a spot than a wide field of view, so plan to have more than one to increase the width of view when place out a distance from the camera, the farther away, the more required depending on the available field of view you have on the camera at distance. My camera in the back ranges out to 60 feet with it own IR's, and using 2 remote IR light units set at 60' from the camera I easily extend the camera's night range out to 90' or so with around 50' of width, could be more but that is where our yard meets the rain forest. The lights do a decent job of lighting up below the trees until the brush or limbs block the light.Be sure they point away from the camera or expect them to blind the camera.I am powering the 2 lights using 1 wall wart transformer with a Y splitter, and it is plugged into an outdoor wall plug that is in the weather. Been working over a year now with now problem and we get up to 12' of rain a year and some, though not much, snow.If this new unit works as well as the ones I now have in place, and I would expect it to be better based on the construction improvement, I plan on getting more of this type. Cost a bit more but construction of the housing says a lot to me.Good seller, arrived on time, good packaging.

I really like these.
I really like these illuminators! I find it is better to use several small ones rather than a single large one. Large ones create a very bright "hot-spot" which can also over expose faces making them unrecognizable. Using several small ones evens out the light. I also put a thin piece of thin white mylar inside behind the lens to diffuse the IR which helps even out the IR light more.If you have your camera mounted outdoors pointing at something further way, then mount the Illumintor closer to what the camera is pointing at rather than mounting it right next to the camera.I like that these are white so they are less noticeable on the soffit in the daylight. It would really help if the power lead was white as well instead of black. They IR may go 100 ft but the effective range is maybe 50 feet.In my photo I am using 3 of the CMVision IR56 with mylar diffusers added. There is now enough IR to increase the camera shutter speed to 1/30 second rather than 1/5 second. It now takes a sharp image of moving objects rather than a ghostly blur.I have purchased twelve of the IR56 units.

EXCELLENT FOR SEEING PROWLERS AT NIGHT
Don't misunderstand infrared (as some other posters probably have who gave this a low rating) as this light puts out a very powerful illumination that your IR camera doesn't pick up until a PERSON WITH BODY HEAT enters it's field of vision. You really don't want to worry what background objects look like if using this outside with a security camera as I am--you just need to test this with a person walking into view of your camera as they will appear much, much brighter under this light as opposed to the surrounding cold inanimate objects. Infrared goes a very long way - this light was actually way too bright when installed directly under my security camera and I had to move the light back several feet so as not to wash out all the detail on a person's face as they approached the camera. I am using this for home security to illuminate a 50-foot driveway for my D-link DCS-933L IP camera and this light is more than powerful enough. I can easily see people walking past the end of the driveway and it even allows my motion sensor camera to pick up and record the parade of smaller animals such as raccoons, possums, skunks, and foxes which much to my surprise walk up and down my driveway all night long.

Double your illumination!
I bought the HikVision DS-2CD2032-I Outdoor Security Camera (which I love), but it was clear to me that I needed to boost the amount of infrared illumination at night to make the image less grainy. The CMVision IR 56 did the trick. It more than doubles the amount of light I have and is packaged in a nice neat unit. Two tips, though. First, the 12V supply that comes with the unit has a relatively short cord. If you are going to mount it outside, it's good to buy a 2.1mm x 5.5mm DC Plug Extension Cable. Second, be sure this is the illuminator for you. It works with 850 nm wavelength infrared LEDs, which glow slightly red (in addition to the copious amount of IR it produces). This is precisely the same as the camera I have. If your camera works at the 950 nm wavelength, which glows an even fainter purple, this is not the illuminator for you.

Works fine, needs extension cord and better mounting screws.
This IR light greatly improves the distance for night vision on our D-Link camera. Works good out to 50 feet in our yard, possibly farther. I think the advertised 100 feet would only be under ideal conditions. I suspect in nearly all cases a longer power cord is needed. I had to make one. It would be nice to have an extension cord option available at purchase. The lights, case and mount appear well made. The mounting screws supplied are poor quality. They stripped when attempting to screw into wood. The manufacturer saved one or two cents with the cheap screws. The customer will spend time finding replacement screws or spend about a dollar buying a pack of screws at the hardware store.
