EZ setup. Pro results
I'm still an amateur photographer and wanted to take a serious step forward and just dive into studio photography. The first octagon softbox I saw was the Photoflex octodome3 and loved the results it produced. I then noticed Picture People also uses these massive octagon softboxes for all their shoots (they use all Paul Bluff gear in the particular shop I went into). This one is by far the cheapest and I am getting the same exact results as the other softboxes. As far as build quality, this thing is solid. I also want to mention, I do NOT intend to break these down and set them back up as I will only be shooting inside of my house or throw this in the back of the truck if need be.As far as set up, this thing was super easy to put together. The only I'd like to mention is the holes on the speed ring are not labeled so you have to figure out which holes to put the 'umbrella poles' in. It's easy, just make sure the poles are equally spaced from each other. You'll see what I'm talking about; just keep that in mind. As far as the order in which you insert them into the octabox, it's like putting in lugnuts on your tire, but instead, insert them in pairs (2 on, then 2 across and so forth).I am usig this with an Alienbee B1600.

This item is amazing. People stated that the product is hard to put together and hard to take apart but it was fast and easy for me. Started testing it the next day after I received it and I may say it is amazing. If you need a big light coverage for a cheap price this is it for sure.

Good value ... Not easy to put together
Now I know why photographers have assistants..... To put together these things.... I read all the reviews before I purchased this, so I knew it may be a little challenging to put together, but since I read a lot of reviews that said it was a good value I bought it anyway.I was very excited to receive this softbox a day later with amazon prime. I opened the packaging and it was in a cool carrying case and I thought great if I ever need to transport it would be easy.... To my surprise instructions for assembly were included. In other reviews I read it was stated that there were no instructions. Well the company must of read that memo and started sending out printed instructions with little diagrams. So I thought to myself yay!! This should take no time. 45 minutes later I was sitting on the floor sweating and I'm in great shape lol. even with instructions this box is Huge and not easy to assemble.. But I will agree with the other reviewers when they say this box is a great value, very sturdy and well made. I would buy from this company again.Needless to say I will never breakdown this softbox, until I hire a personal assistant to take it down and put it back up for me... That's why I gave this product 4 stars other wise I would of given it 5.I'd like to thank fotodiox for making these quality products, at an affordable price.... I just hope they take note like they did with the instructions and make these boxes easier to assemble.

I couldn't be happier. I expected far worse quality for the price
I have Dynalites and this is designed for Alien Bees. My engineer husband figured out a way to take the insert out of the speedring that comes with it, and jury-rig my Dynalite speedring in there. I couldn't be happier. I expected far worse quality for the price, but this thing is sturdy, durable, and puts off a beautiful soft light. It's big enough for full-body shots. It's the same quality as those octabanks that are far more expensive. I never collapse it, (I'm a female photographer and this stuff is meant for male strength,) but I have a small SUV and it fits snugly in the back of the car, with the seats down, just sliding in over the tops of my camera bags, without collapsing it. I also have a 2-car garage so I keep it, not collapsed, in there when I'm not using it.

Easy assembly. Excellent soft light!
I'm not sure what everyone was talking about when they said that assembling this was hard. I purchased the 60" Octo and I put it together in 10 mins. It was not hard at all. I put it together in my home and was going to transport it to my studio, but then relizes it was to big.I had to take out 2 rods to squeeze it in my back seat. Then when I got to my studio I had to put the rods back in and I did not have a problem.Overall this is an excellent octobox. I will probably not be buying any other brand except these. Why spend 3 to $400 dollars for a softbox when this one does the same thing and the build quality is great. I just can see it, I was skeptical at first but after putting this octo together and feeling the build quality it's just as good as the other name brand softboxes.

60 Inch Softbox is Too Heavy for Alien Bees!
I read the reviews about this being too heavy, but decided to give it a chance anyway. The soft box is well constructed and easy to set up and take down once you have done it a couple of times. It is huge as others have stated. It is WAY TOO HEAVY for my Alien Bees 800. The slightest touch makes it fall off the light. Even so, it fell off on its own many times. I am lucky that it did not break anything on the mono lights on one of its trips to the floor. I know some folks have said they use a bungee cord to keep it in place, but I don't think that looks very professional.I returned this one and ordered the 48 inch version. It is much more manageable, a lot lighter and stays put while still providing good coverage of beautiful soft light.

Hard to put together
Difficult to put together alone. You have to bend the rods severely before they will fit in the pockets where they belong. Also, instructions were not the most clear. Took a while to figure out. I can't imaging having to set this up and break it down every time I need to use it. Unfortunately I missed the return date so now I am stuck with a product that I will never use. This would be a great product for someone who has the room to store it put together.

Very Very Happy!
This is a great product! Way better than I expected. It arrived fast and packed very well. I use a continuous fluorescent lighting set up so I had to customize the rods a but by cutting off the tips of the fat ends and then widening the holes on my light head using a drill. Very easy modification and it works and looks amazing!I purchased all sorts of Fotodiox products from soft boxes to lens adapters to reflector kits and I've always been very satisfied!Couldn't find anyone around so I did a test shot using my kids stuffed owl, as seen in the photos. Thanks Fotodiox.Chris KovacsAdore Noir Magazineadorenoir.com
