Is the charging station included?

Yes, a charger STATION is included. Would be nice if you could just plug a cord into a jack on the radio, but if you're going on a long trip you need to bring the charging station on board, not just a cord.

how does this model compare with the 73 plus?

As long as I know, you can get theer years warranty but I don't think it is an extended Amazon warrenty.I think this warranty is provided by the product manufacturer, Icom.
