They were able to pick up a lot of channels. **Q: where can I get a remote control?** A: buy universal remote: Info in box list converters/TVs/DVR/cable boxes/etc. that work with it. Then program the remote to the numbers entered. Some removes (most) have a code search feature where as you push a few buttons and then press a button while pointing it at the already on tV and converter box. WHen the channel changes or it powers off it is set. My have to push buttons 50 -100 times. **Q: Can you change channels without the remote control** A: No, you can not change channels without the remote. You need the remote control to operate everything. I recently bought the Zinwell ZAT-970A as a second box after reading the good (4 star average) reviews for that unit compared to the 2.5 star average review for this one. This goes to show that one should take user reviews with a grain of salt. The on-screen interface of this box and the Zinwell seem to be identical (so the guts probably originate from the same factory), but the display is clearer on this one and the channels seems to change more quickly. I feel like the construction quality of this unit is *slightly* higher than that of the Zinwell, too.I don't give this one five stars because the buttons on the remote occasionally need to be pressed quite firmly to get a response out of it.~Justine ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Digital HDTV converter box with S-Video and smart antenna connections *by G***G on Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2014* This digital HDTV converter box has standard RCA plug audio/video outputs as well as an S-Video output. Input for a smart antenna as well as the standard coaxial input/output RF connectors. There are no other buttons than a power switch, so you must have the functioning remote. There is no method to mannualy add missed channels after auto-scan. The box states "Analog Pass Through", but since it needs a different antenna to pickup the old analog signals, I don't see how it could possible work without antenna switching. Paperwork also states that the unit needs to be powered off for pass-thru option.
