It solves the problem of where to put a screen in an older car without covering up something useful on the dash. And mounting without having to drill, futz with brackets, etc. makes it a breeze.When the screen is blank it is an adequate mirror, though not like a true mirror. It is somewhat like an automatic dimming mirror when it is dimmed - reflective and quite usable but with a blueish tint.When operating and displaying an image on the screen, it is easily bright enough for daylight use, and the image is sharp and clear. I used the "Esky EC170-06 World Smallest HD Color CCD Waterproof Vehicle Car Rear View Backup Camera, 170 Degree Viewing Angle Rearview Camera" and find the combination to be fantastic. I installed this in a 2006 Toyota Sienna. The overhead console with the map lights, electronic compass & door buttons provided power & ground and a great place to stash the bundle of excess wire.As others have noted, the wiring instructions are poor. As you expect, the black wire is ground. Connect the red wire to +12V, and the connect the blue wire to the reverse lights so that it gets +12V at the same time the camera does. The blue wire is the trigger to enable the screen - if you connect the blue wire to a +12V when the camera is not on, you will get the blue screen "no signal" message others have mentioned. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to install, works well, but backup camera image is difficult to see on sunny days *by C***S on March 27, 2015* This was fairly easy to install with a backup camera. Hardest part was getting wires through firewall. It clipped securely to my Ram 1500 rearview mirror (I purchased this 2 months ago & I have had no issue with mirror tilting down). The mirror is noticeably larger than original rearview mirror...about the same length but quite a bit taller. I ran wire that I purchased to the back of my truck & wired the power wire into my backup lights. My camera only had a power wire (no trigger wire) which I also wired into backup lights. When I put truck in reverse, camera and rearview monitor both power up. The video cable (uses standard RCA Jack's) was long to run from camera, up to under hood, & through firewall (Dodge Ram 1500 regular cab). The mirror is not as reflective as a normal mirror so image is darker. It's like looking through tinted windows, but the image is fine during day or night. My only complaint is the backup camera image is difficult to see on a bright, sunny day due to the reflective coating on the mirror. However, one review said to flip your mirror to night mode (if you have the old non dimming mirror like I do) when it's bright outside. This does cut down the brightness & makes the rearview camera image more visible. Lastly, I do not use the remote control at all...seems like an unnecessary accessory, but the price is very reasonable. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Deal! *by J***. on September 3, 2015* Great deal for the price! I only installed it last week paired with a reverse camera (Esky EC170-11), but totally satisfied so far. Only $47 for the whole setup!Connected it so it works when I shift to reverse or I can turn the camera and display on by using the power button on the remote control or on the face of the display. The display does not need to be powered on for the reverse function to work; it powers up automatically when shifting to reverse. There are no connection instructions so I took some tips from other reviews.1. Connect the red wire to an accessory 12 vdc source so it only has power when the ignition key is on or in the accessory position. I used the power wire on the back side of an accessory power outlet factory installed in the Jeep. I also connected the camera's red power wire to the same source so they are both powered on at the same time.2. Connect the black wire to a good ground on the body or chassis somewhere.3. Connect the blue wire to the 12 vdc power wire to the reverse lights. This will only have power to it when you shift to reverse.4. Connect one of the yellow RCA input jacks to your camera.I installed this on my Jeep because I want to be able to see close-up when out rock crawling.
