A must-read for PD patients and their healthcare providers
I have a loved one with PD and have read quite a bit of research about the condition. This book presents very useful information that I haven't seen elsewhere. Dr. Mischley has organized the book in an extremely clear, simple way, which I greatly appreciate. She mentions that she may write a follow-up book. In the next one, some information I hope she includes:-The incredible positive effects of forced exercise, researched by the Cleveland Clinic-The positive effects of various stress reduction and mindful movement practices-For readers who are hesitant to give up dairy due to worries about not getting enough calcium, please offer advice on how to use calcium supplements-More information about the medical use of marijuana; Cannabis oil can reportedly be very effective for people with PD-How the brain adapts to dopaminergic drugs over time – by producing less and less of its own dopamine, so the patient needs to take more of the drugThis is truly an outstanding book, which I hope everyone with PD and their healthcare providers will read!Sarah Warren, CCSE, RSMEAuthor of The Pain Relief Secret

A simple, direct and easy to read guidebook
This is a wonderful guide for those interested in the role that nutrition especially plays in addressing the treatment of Parkinson's Disease. As a person recently diagnossed with PD, I have faiathfully researched the landscape of pharmecuticals, vitamins, nutraceuticals and supplements of all kinds;also, physical activities including TAi Chi, yoga and Pilates and exercise. And a host of conventional medical approaches together with naturopathic and alternative medicines.Dr. Mischley touches on just about everything noted above and summarizes clearly the benefits and shortcomings of each in an independent and thoughtful manner. She also speaks respectfully within her text to the physicians in all disciplines and yet has done so in a manner understandable by the lay person. In short, this is a quick and easy while compelling read and I think it has something for everyone ... especially PD patients loooking for something instructive enabling them to addresss their issues directly.

Useful to confirm one's own research into Parkinson's complementary & alternative therapies
A useful book to help confirm one's own research into complementary & alternative therapies for this disease. The book does tend to stay narrowly into the supplements range of possible non-medical therapies for Parkinson's; but I think this is intentional. This work does not address therapies the author is not directly experience in. I would like to see a newer revision of this book created, in the same stylistic manner, maybe co-authored by leading authorities in complementary & alternative therapies other than just supplements, to give this work a greater sense of completeness.

Very helpful book on the nutritional considerations of diagnosed PD
Recently diagnosed with PD, the book provided me with lots of topics to discuss with my neurologist in the areas of nutrition and supplements to help maximize the effect of prescribed medication. It covered complicated medical facts concisely and in simple, practical fashion. The author was not “selling,” just providing very helpful information a PD patient should consider.

Summary
Very informative and very well researched. Laurie has put together the facts in a format that is easy to read and reference which any body is able to follow without having a medical background. I will definitely be trying out these alternative therapies.

Don't waste your money
This book is is simplistic and preachy with an anti-Western-medicine bent. The book is not useless; it does provide a decent summary of many of the alternative PD therapies but one can get 90% of the same information free from better public sources and without the "woo-woo". The author should have read Carl Sagan's "The Demon Haunted World". If you are so lazy and so stupid that you cannot do your own reasearch on the internet and you also enjoy being reinforced in your "doctors don't know" beliefs then you will enjoy the book. Otherwise save your money.

Feedback on Natural Therapies for Parkinson's Disease
A good book covering the nutrition side of therapy. Not covered in the book are the efficacy of therapeutic intervention involving a combination of Exercise, yoga, meditation, acupuncture ,etc etc.Negatives are--- ALL dairy products are NOT recommended in the book without any reason put forward. (my guess is because cows have been fed with supplements showing up in the milk produced).---------------------No mention is made of the effect of diet supplemented by Whey Protein isolated from milk , a particular brand, by the name of IMMUNOCAL sold in packets of powder,is a natural source of the Glutathione precursor Cysteine - (GSH) - , for the maintenance of a strong immune system.Low GSH levels in plasma have been implicated in the occurrence of Parkinson's & many other chronic diseases (see book by Dr. Gutman).I aim to commence the recommendation by the author to add Citcoline ( as Lecithin granules) to the diet given the purported benefits of a significant reduction in medication ( Levedopa for correction of dopamine deficiency).
