Workhouse iron Get this now!
**Product update After two years this iron is still working well. I have absolutely no regrets with this purchase, and feel although somewhat pricey, was the best choice. It has cut down our ironing times by about 80%. It's so efficient, Just a few passes with the steamer and the wrinkles are out. It leaked in the beginning, most likely because the reservoir was overfilled accidentally. Don't let it run dry would be my biggest advice. We used tap and well water, without problems. Not sure what the manufacturer has to say about the water types, but there's been no issues. It's a quality iron, very useful. It takes the headaches out of ironing. My rating has been increased from 4 to 5 stars, as we never thought it would last this long. I debated and shopped a lot before deciding to make the plunge, and purchase this iron. There were multiple reviews read, price comparisons and then more reading and debating. Overall, I'm glad I made the purchase and wonder how in the world I kept my sanity without this type of iron. It has cut my ironing times in more than half. The passes made with this iron is a clean-sweep. It is very efficient and powerful. I will never use a "traditional" iron again. The steam station type irons are definitely the way to go. I used to hate ironing, because it took so long to take out wrinkles, especially in cotton. Our household is a cotton family due to skin and sensory issues, and that means lots of ironing out wrinkles. Pros: Powerful steam iron Cut your ironing time way down Actually enjoy ironing for the first time in my life PRECISE ironing, gets into those hard to reach corners of the button shirts, nooks and crannies, piece of cake! Easy to set up Easy to use I like that it has to be unplugged to turn it off. To me, it's a matter of safety especially with kids running around. I don't have to worry about forgetting to turn it off, I just pull the plug out. Cons: It can be loud when the water is loading up for steam. It's not annoying, it's fine and doesn't last forever. It's finicky and needs care. For example, it leaked on me only once, and that was because I over filled the water chamber. I no longer overfill the water chamber, in fact, I only fill it once the iron sensor tells me the water is too low. It's a bit bulky, but all the steam based irons are like this. It just takes getting used to. When steaming items vertically, the steamer poops out after about a minute, then it has to reload water from the chamber, then you wait until it's warm enough again. This is not a problem if you have a shirt, and can use short boosts. But with my heavy blazers, it's too time consuming and didn't seem to be very efficient for that type of fabric. To make it even better, I invested in a larger ironing board, so I'm an ironing machine mama now! What I've concluded is that this iron is excellent for the price range it is in. It seems that I would have to buy the more expensive brands that are about twice as much in price to get my bulky materials (wool blazers) to steam in the vertical position. For every day family ironing, this is an awesome iron that will get it done really fast. Shirts, pants, blouses, kids clothes, you name it, it's done. Just treat it with care and she will be good to you. *Update I've owned this iron for a few years now- it is a work horse and still going strong. I highly recommend this product. Don't over fill the water chamber. Allow time for it to fully power up. Enjoy!

Very good iron except for one small annoyance.
Rowenta makes a very good iron. It has been my brand of choice for a very long time. Several years ago, a good friend gifted us Rowenta steam station and we loved it (as much as you can really like an iron). When we went looking for a replacement I saw this DG8430 and a newer model with a larger water reservoir. The older iron we wanted to replace did not have a visible reservoir which meant that we would run out of water and had to stop ironing until we let the system cool down to allow adding additional water. This new iron allows you to add water "on the go" so you do not have to stop what is already a job that you really want to finish! The other real plus is the "scale collector" which makes the calcium deposits that are generated by all steam irons much easier to clean out. This gives the iron a much longer life since scale buildup will eventually kill any steam iron. The reason for the four star rating instead of five is the fact that every once in a while, the iron will lose its steam capacity for about ten seconds. This is apparently caused by the need for the iron to pull water from the reservoir into a heating area to produce the steam. I understand that but the iron should not have to run out of steam. I use the steam ability of this iron all the time. It makes my job easier and to have to wait on the iron to get the steam I need to finish a job I really do not want to do is a bit irritating. My older iron did not do that. The newer version of this product has a somewhat larger water reservoir and I do not know if that product has the same problem. This model costs significantly less than the larger new one and I want for the savings knowing that Rowenta would not disappoint me with the product. Maybe the newer version has the capacity to keep the steam up and I know that ten seconds or so is no big deal but it is annoying enough to me to drop a star. I do recommend this steam station to you. It will do what you want it to do and more but take a look at the large model as well. Note that the actual iron is the same. The real difference is in the reservoir and maybe the steam generation capacity. It makes a good amount of steam but you may have to wait on it every once and a while.

Great iron!! I only trust rowenta because they are the best. Only irritating feature is this model has no on /off switch. So i have to unplug it every time instead of turning it off and leaving it plugged..somehow this does seem a bit careless in design, but maybe i am just a whiner in regards to first world problems. I do love the iron, steam is great , precision tip handy, easily refillable at any time (the fill tank is much improved from previous model). Unless you need am industrial iron you cannot ever go wrong with rowenta. The steam station is ideal for those needing to use the iron for extended periods of time.

Ironing is a dying art, but for those who still iron, this is a gem, To have constant steam, it takes half the time to iron sheets and pillow cases. Also good as a steamer on vertical surfaces,

It never produced any steam, so I sent it back. A friend of mine has the same model, and she couldn't get it to work properly either. Very disappointing. There was clearly something wrong with the one I received. I am reluctant to purchase another one!

My wife loves this iron. The box was a bit "used" but the iron is brand new.
