Mothers California Gold Clay Kit, 1 100-gram Clay Bar + 16 oz. Instant Detailer — Removes Contaminants, Restores Brilliance & Smoothness of Paint, Chrome, Glass & Plastics (07241)

This kit has everything you need and super easy to use. Was a little hesitant to use since I have never clayed a car before. Use plenty of spray and lite pressure. Left the car smooth as butter. As I was clawing the hood and front of car, I could feel and hear the clay bar pulling pulling junk off of the paint. Followed up with Mothers wax and the car looks great.

Nice quality products. Used half of one Clay Bar on a Ford F150 Truck and the other half of the Clay Bar on a full size body on frame Mercury Car. The Instant Detailer provided very good lubrication for this Clay process. The Micro Fiber Clothes were very good quality. Both vehicles ended up with extremely smooth contaminate free painted surfaces. Waxed both vehicles and they have not looked this good since purchased new even though they have been washed regularly and waxed twice per year. Still have some Instant Detailer left in the bottle & two unused Clay Bars.

This was not my first experience using this clay kit as I have been using Mother's clay to detail the paint on my cars since I first learned about the advantages of using clay on a car's finish back in the late 1990's. Body and paint shops have been using clay for decades but Mother's brand brought the advantages of clay to remove paint contaminates to the gerneral public and I'm thankful they did. The before and after difference in the feel of the car's finish is amazing. I would never have believed the product claim of removing surface impurities until I tried it for myself. By way of example, I can stand the instant detailer (used to lubricate the clay) on the finish before using the clay and the bottle will stay in place. After using the clay, I can place the bottle in the same location and it won't stay in place. The finish is so smooth that nothing will stay in place, even something as light as a micro-fiber towel just slides off the finish. The clay treatment will not remove surface imperfections like swirl marks or small scratches but it prepares the finish for the next steps in a good paint detail job. I usually follow the clay with a polishing compound and then seal the finish with a ceramic "wax" to protect it from UV rays and the onslaught of chemical and mineral contaminats that are always present in the enviornment. Modern car finishes are very tough but if you want them to last its still important to clean and protect them every year or so. My car is a 2009 and is not stored in a garage but it still looks and feels almost showroom new thanks, in part, to this great product.

Mothers makes dependable well priced products. This kit worked decently but it left things lacking. I have a black 2006 Volvo S60R. It has been babied this past year (I've owned it for a month now), but in full sun and up close, you can tell it's almost 12 years old. I did things a bit backwards and waxed it the moment I got it (CarGuys liquid wax), and it shines like hell but the finish was still a bit rough and the amount of metallic in the black sapphire paint actually accentuates instead of hides swirls, scratches, etc. This kit will likely only last you a single venture. The clay bars are very small. The spray bottle pretty much ran out right at the end. To be fair I was working in a do-it-yourself car wash so I could wash before and after and the wind was howling non-stop so that likely 50% of the spray didn't get to lay on the car anyway. But regardless, I wouldn't count on getting two goes from one bottle much less these two tiny bars. The kit was easy to use and comes with an absorbant wiping cloth as well. My only beef with the cloth is the huge Mother's branded tag on it. I will say this made a noticeable difference in the slick/smoothness of the pain but I can still feel some imperfections, I likely needed to start out with a higher grade and work down to finer versions. Still, the beading and gleam after just clay barring and pre-second wash was impressive. It did catch on some of the rougher plastic body kit panels and where there's a deep scratch on one trim panel, but it cleaned up easily. The finish I got after re-waxing after using this kit was noticeably improved, scratches etc still visible but the finish was such a smooth glossy sheen even in cloudy/overcast/darkening light. Considering I find it even harder to take my eyes off my car, I'd say this product is worth it. I'm not 100% satisfied with either Mothers or Meguire's but until I find a kit with a bigger volume of cleaner and larger bars for a similar price, I'll keep buying this twice a year.

It seems to happen more and more, but I got this Amazon delivery with pieces missing - one of the three clay bars was missing. I contacted Amazon and they said contact Mothers, which I did. After a couple of minutes, it was discovered that the box was tampered with and returned, and someone took one of the clay bars. Mothers immediately arranged to send me a replacement clay bar - quick and good customer service. I might consider buying directly from Mothers next time as the clay bar treatment I used on my Porsche Cayenne worked wonderfully. The process was simple, the clay bar left no marks and the paint surface was smooth again. I then buffed the car for a super nice, clean and new looking shine. I would highly recommend this product.

This product actually works and it is fast and easy to use. Removed tree sap like magic.

I learned about Gold Clay Bars in a Honda CRV forum, where car enthusiasts shared their favorite products. This was three years ago. Since then I clay my car twice a year, in the spring and the the fall. I just finished my spring treatment when a fellow walked by my car and asked if this was 2011 CRV that I was washing. I told him it was almost 4 years old and he could not believe it. I have to admit that the car does look like new with much of the credit to regular claying and using back-to-black on plastic parts. I should mention that I store Gold Clay in a plastic container which used to contain onion dip. This keeps it pliable and clean. It is a bit strange that the container for clay did not come with the package. If clay dries out it will stop working. And it is sticky, so if you leave it without some sort of container it will pick up dirt that could scratch the car the next time you use it. Claying system removes contaminants that attach themselves to the car. Clay does not polish the car or remove any paint of finish, so it is totally safe to the finish if used properly (i.e. with plenty of lubrication). The clay material (which feels like play-doh)makes the small particulars that are deposited on the car finish attach themselves to the clay and get lifted from the car finish. Clay needs to be used with heavy lubrication, which Showtime Instant Detailer, included in this package, provides. I start by washing my car. I don't dry it as this time as water drops will be removed by other steps. Then I clay the car. I don't clay every inch of the entire car. I just examine the car by sight for any imperfections and by my running my hand over the paint to feel any tiny bumps. When I feel some grittiness or see some dirt on the paint, I generously spray that section with Showtime Instant Detailer, then knead the piece of clay in my hand and rub it against the spot I identified. Normally, you see the dirt disappear in a few swipes. Sometimes you need to reapply the Detailer and repeat. Kneading is important as you want to work the little pieces of dirt into the clay, and not leave it on the surface of the clay ball where it can scratch the car. This year we had a rough winter and I had some rubber marks from my snow removal tool in addition to the regular dirt specs. Clay did a great job on removing those marks. I also use the clay on non-painted areas such as glass and chrome. It does a great job as well. After the claying step I wax the car is small sections. Mothers 05701 California Gold Carnauba Cleaner Wax Liquid - 16 oz As my final step I apply Back-to-black Mothers 06108 Back-To-Black - 8 oz to non-painted surfaces. This turns the dull plastic into shiny new looking surface. Back-to-black is also effective in removing any wax that might have accidently got on the plastic, that's why I do back-to-black as the last step.

This is hard to review. Like another review I read..I was missing a bar. Only came with 2 bars. Bars look much smaller than the picture they commercialize. Product seemed to work great though. Really got out a lot of the strange, seemingly embedded deposits on the hood. I do like the product but hate I got ripped off a bar. Not sure if there is enough spray for all these bars. I've never done this before and was happy with the results.

This complete clay bar kit is the one of best solution to remove all the contaminants. Since my car is white, it had tar marks and insects deposit all over it. If you're detailing your car, I feel this is the best product. Use it with instant detailer and it just removes all the dirty contaminants from your car making the paint smooth as glass to touch. Takes time and effort but surely makes a difference to the paint.

I am an instant fan, works as the package says and leaves the car surface clean and shiny like new. Will purchase again and recommend to anybody wanting to look after their car. I clean my own vehicle so see what industrial fall out can do. This removed mine easily.
