Deluxe SM-110 Finger Pulse Oximeter with Carry Case and Neck/Wrist Cord

As a physician I am accustomed to using a pulse oximeter in the office setting to record what we consider to be the fifth vital sign, oxygen saturation. In my work setting this is a crucial measurement to determine how worried to be about someone complaining of cough or shortness of breath. Basically, these meters quickly and painlessly determine pulse rate and oxygen saturation with no more effort required than sticking a finger tip into the meter. For years pulse oximeters have been too expensive for most people to purchase for personal usage, but the cost has obviously dropped dramatically over the years. I purchased this Deluxe SM-110 two way finger pulse oximeter on a Gold Box offer for personal usage at home. It arrived very quickly after placing my order. The meter is quite small, and arrives safely packaged in a sturdy fabric carry case. Two different straps are included (wrist strap & neck strap) and a pair of AAA alkaline batteries. The included instruction sheet tells you everything you need to know. The battery compartment is a little odd: usually, the negative end of a battery goes against the spring, but with this product the positive tip of the battery goes against one of the springs and the negative end of the battery goes against the other spring. The battery configuration is clearly imprinted in the battery compartment, so you can easily see how to orient the batteries. Operation is very simple. Push the power button to turn the unit on and stick a finger in the meter. The meter opens somewhat like a clothes pin to create the spot to place your finger. The meter blinks to show it is detecting your pulse and oxygen saturation and will display both of these values in just a few seconds on the display. The "two way display" simply means you can read pulse rate and oxygen saturation from two different directions, which is handy if you are trying to measure them on yourself. When you are done with the measurement you can take your finger out of the meter, and it will turn itself off within a few seconds. Normal oxygen saturation will be above 88% on room air (i.e. without wearing supplemental oxygen). An oxygen saturation below 88% either on room air or while wearing supplemental oxygen means you should seek medical attention right away as your oxygen level is too low. Most healthy adults with good heart/lung function will have oxygen saturation well into the 90s on room air. This is a very handy device to have around, particularly for anyone with heart disease such as congestive heart failure or lung disease such as COPD or asthma, especially if they require usage of supplemental oxygen. The cost for this pulse oximeter is minimal and well worth the investment.

This pulse oximeter is simple to use and gives quick readings. It fits comfortably on the finger and the display is clear and easy to read. Results appear within seconds, which is convenient for quick checks. The device feels well made and consistent with repeated use. I've used a different Oximeter...the Acc U Rate ($22) for about a year now and it's number for Pulse Ox is 1 to 2 numbers lower than this silver SM-110. I put the Acc U Rate (blue model) on my left index finger and this silver one on my right index finger. The silver one gave me a 96 while the blue one rated me at 94. I'll take them both with me to Rehab and check them out against the one the pro's use and come back and let you know the score. Okay....I took both Oximeters to my Rehab exercise class today and guess which one was accurate...the silver one, the one I'm doing the review on right now. So...actually that was good news for me personally because it shows my pulse ox is at least one number higher than i've thought it was for the last year. This silver one registered the exact numbers that the professional oximeter registered for my Pulse Oxygen. The pulse rate varied just a number or two but was jumping around a bit on all 3 oximeters, and the numbers on all three oximeters were very similar. This silver oximeter was very close if not the exact number of the professional model. I tested about 3 times after various exercises and 2 times at rest. Significantly, my pulse oxygen numbers on this silver oximeter were perfectly lined up with the professional mode every timel, and I mean to the exact number. So I'll be using this silver one daily and the blue one for backup (and just add a number or two to it). Packaging wasn't great. Slow shipping. No paperwork at all, so no physical receipt. The flimsy box was bent up like something you'd get from China, with the contents just stuffed inside. Anyway, that's too bad because this is a good product that deserves better. Oh...the readout on this silver one is choppy, just look at the display on it's page, whereas the display on the blue one is much easier to read because the lines showing the numbers are all connected, if you know what I mean. Maybe what I'm trying to say is...the number display on this silver Oximeter is like what you'd see if a dot matrix printer printed it out. Best interpreted at a distance. But again...you get an accurate reading with the silver one. Another thing...this silver one doesn't 'grasp' your finger quite tight enough. And the readout is rather upside down...and you can't change that. With some oximeters you can push the button to get various directional orientations, but evidently not with this one. I guess we're supposed to put it on our index finger and then turn our hand around with our palm-side facing us and then drop-down that finger and read it. Yeah...that works. But again, it's a loose fit, a little more prone to fall off. If I could have only one oximeter, I'd get this silver one because of its excellent accuracy. You get used to the other negatives I mentioned. Almost forgot...I like the little black case that you also get a lanyard to attach to. You also get another lanyard that attaches directly to the Oximeter. It's a little too long though...hits against everything. Will have to shorten it a bit. Lastly, be sure to put the batteries in the right way. I hear if you don't the whole world could blow up. :)

This pulse oximeter has been a helpful addition to our home. It's quick to give a reading, easy to use right out of the box, and the display is clear and easy to read- even in low light. The finger clip fits comfortably and I appreciate the compact design for travel or keeping in a drawer. I’ve used it to check oxygen levels and pulse during workouts and while resting, and the numbers have been consistent and in line with expectations. It brings peace of mind, especially during cold and flu season. Overall, it’s a great tool to have on hand for general wellness tracking. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a simple, no-fuss oximeter.

Yes. I've become a slight hypochondriac since Covid, and I originally bought this pulse oximeter to form part of my Covid first aid kit. It works really well and is actually accurate, considering the low cost. I am pleased to say my blood oxygen saturation is high, though so is my pulse...hmm. lol

we are a care home and the nurse wanted this to monitor our residents well-being - has been great at signalling issues and we have been able to give feedback to the hospital or paramedics already

The product works well, though sometimes it's a little hit and miss with recognising finger placement for reading o2 saturation. The finger position on the device needs to be carefully positioned for it to read properly. It's something that just takes a little getting used to. I would not hesitate to recommend this product.

This item is great for putting in your handbag as it is compact, even when in it's little pouch. It can also be worn around the neck if you're in a situation where you're likely to need to get to it more easily. It's easy to use & easy to understand (the numbers are not too small to read). It's the perfect size for someone who's into first aid or needs to carry this round on a more regular basis. It also has a little loop on the pouch so it can be put on a keyring or a narrow belt. I would recommend this product to anyone. A 9yr old could use & understand it if necessary.
