Drive failed on install. Oyen 5 bay ran 3 days. No workee. Called WD. Turns out unit warranty expired 2019. In other words, i paid money for a non-functional museum piece. Waste of my time. 5-star on the flake-o-meter.

WD has come out with newer Red drives using SMR technology. Do NOT buy these as they will NOT work properly in a NAS Array and will give you an error while building. You must be sure to get the Red Plus or Pro with CMR technology. I do not understand how WD could release a drive for NAS use like this. Also, I noticed that their quality control is slipping. I have a couple of large arrays and the WD Red drives are failing more often than before.

I purchased 2 of these drive in U-LN condition. One drive is acceptable with total 439 days of use and 43 total Start/Stop counts. I am returning the 2nd drive as has 1,429 total days of use recorded, an estimated 395 days of life remaining and 57,308 total registered Start/Stops. Completely UNACCEPTABLE!!! I used Hard Disk Sentinel to check the drive upon arrival.

My hard drive arrived in bubble bags instead of the proper packaging. It made an awful sound when inserted into my drive array and would not initialize. Mechanical hard drives are sensitive to shock and cannot be warehoused or transported outside of a shock absorbing box. Returning this drive for a refund.
