The Arnold Lobel Treasury (Dover Children's Classics)

I am a nanny and mother of 5 sons. I love to read this collection at work. This author also did the Frog and Toad Collection, which I also purchased. Both, worth it. They have lessons on human nature that make you laugh and talk about with the kids. So good!

Arnold Lobel is a quirky writer which is why I like his stories. I bought this collection in order to get one story in the volume, The Great Blueness and Other Predicaments, which has been out of print for many years. I love that story! The rest of the stories in the collection are okay. Prince Bertram the Bad is kind of fun. But none of the stories are really as clever as The Great Blueness. I was very glad I found this book.

I love this book. It's whimsical, funny, adorable, and perfect for children and reading aloud. I can't recommend this highly enough!

Arnold Lobel was a genius storywriter and illustrator with a wry, very subtle humor. These stories offer something different to fans familiar with Lobel from his very famous Frog and Toad series. Our son really enjoyed this book.

I've been enjoying Lobel's stories and illustrations but this collection puts together stories from apparently different stages of experimentation. The only story I liked was Prince Bertram. But I found the illustrations either too bleary (first story), babyish (Bertram), overdone (story about colors), or forgettable (I forgot the last story!). Bought for grandchildren, but returned. Thot it would leave them nonplussed.

I love these stories and got them to read to my grandson. The tiny books are cute!

This is a fantastic collection of stories that are a must for all kids and the ONLY place to get "The Great Blueness," which is sadly out of print as a stand-alone book. "The Great Blueness" is my children's favorite story. It's funny, engaging and piques their interest. The other stories are fantastic as well. They all have good morals and are imaginative.

Beautiful stories with beautiful illustrations. I bought it for my grandma to have a collection of stories to read to her great grandsons, because I loved listening to her read to me as a kid, and her kids' storybook collection has shrunk over the years. I think I'm going to get myself one too.

Although best known for his Frog and Toad stories, Lobel was a prolific and highly accomplished writer and illustrator of a range of tales. Often referred to as indispensable, there is something quite magical about his stories and they are a wonderful first step into independent reading with tales touched with a philosophy that has both humour and wisdom. The collection here (in A4 format so large and expanded) collects four completely different stories: Bears of the Air, Prince Bertram the Bad, The Great Blueness and The Man Who Took the Indoors Out. I think my favourite was the first which tells the story of a group of young bears who tire of lessons from grandfather and instead, pursue what interests them. The outcome is sweet and jocular and lessons are learned by both adult and child. His stories are, upon reflection, almost fablistic in manner.

Complete版と勘違いして購入。何たる勘違い、といった感じでしたが、この本に含まれている４つのお話はどれも楽しかったです。４作品は下記の通り："The bears of the air""Prince Bertram the bad""The Great blueness""The man who took the indoors out"文章量、絵の感じなど、それぞれ違うので、色々と楽しめます。28cm.と30cm.近いけれど、ペーパーバック版なので、軽いです。収納がちょっと困るかもしれません。でも、ぱらぱらっと読めるので一息つくのに丁度いい物語集です
