We typically recommend the Z5 to be used in a 2x2' (4 sqft) area as the light footprint (coverage area) is ideal here. 3x3' equals 9 sqft, more than twice the area of our recommendation. With that said, we have heard back from customers who use our Z5 in a 3x3' and they say that they do fine. It all comes down to your yield expectations. The general rule of thumb is: more light = higher yield. There are, of course, other factors playing in such as your plant management skills (trimming, LTS:ing, watering), nutrients, temperature and humidity, etc. If you're new to growing, I'd say go with one lamp while you learn all the other aspects of growing. Chances are you won't get everything right (plant management, nutrients, etc) the first time which means that the amount of light will most likely not be your limiting factor. However, if you're an experienced grower and you know full well how to take care of your plants, you'll most likely get *at least* an additional $169 worth of yield with a second lamp, i.e. the second lamp pays for itself. A middle ground would be to start out with one lamp, see how things go, and once you're in late veg/early flowering, you'll add the second lamp, if you feel it's needed. A single Z5 will veg a 3x3' area well but as your plants mature, they can take higher light intensities, thus may want more light. I hope this makes sense. We don't want to push people to buy more than they are comfortable with but at the same time, more light almost certainly equals higher yield. Without additional CO2, you should aim to give your plants about a light intensity of around 600 PPFD/PAR. One Z5 LED grow light covers an area of 2x2' (4sqft) well. How far away from the plants should this light be mounted?** A: Hello there, This is Daniel from LEDTonic. The distance between the lamp and your plants varies a bit depending on what you types of plants you grow and how far along they are in their grow cycle. Assuming you grow medicinal plants (or other light intense plants like tomatoes and peppers), mature plants in their flowering stage will need about 600-800 PPFD (PPFD = light intensity). This is achieved at a distance of 10-12" between lamp and plant with both VEG and BLOOM button switched on. Keep in mind that seedlings require much less intense light. About 200 PPFD. During the vegetative stage around 300-500 PPFD is recommended. You get 200 PPFD at 12" with the VEG button only. 300 PPFD at 10" with VEG button only. 500 PPFD at 6" with VEG button or around 20" with VEG + BLOOM button. Hope this helps! We actually get asked about this very size from time to time. 32" translates to 2.7'. We generally recommend this LED grow light to be used in a 2x2' tent (4 sqft coverage) as this is where it excels. But we've heard back from customers who see good results when using two Z5s in a 4x4' (16 sqft), i.e. one Z5 per 8 sqft. 32x32", or 2.7x2.7', equals 7.3 sqft so it's not a bad fit. It comes down a bit to what you're used to grow with, yield expectations, and how much experience you have with indoor growing. Typically, the more light = the higher yield (to some extent).
