That are comfortable. This had great reviews and so I took a chance on them and ordered two. And I'm sooo glad I did! It is exactly what I wanted. They look just like the photo and are made of a firm memory foam kind of material. My daughter was climbing all over it and excited pretty much right off the bat. She sleeps so much better at night and doesn't wake up near as much. I opened the package and it just inflated itself up and was pretty much ready immediately. I didn't notice any weird smells or anything.
