Limited value but well made. A tool waiting not to be used.
This device holds for sharpening the blade that is used for leather carving in a swivel knife. It would seem that the elements are there, but they don't seem to come together for this purpose. The hole into which the blade must fit seems to be 6 mm wide and is otherwise not adjustable (no holding screw). Whatever blade you put in there, the shaft has to fit well, or it won't be centered and there will be slop when you turn it over. It may work but it won't be as precise as I would like for the bother. For my testing, I used a standard Tandy brand swivel cutter. In order to use it, you need to remove the blade from the swivel cutter. In the case of the Tandy, you must use a fine screwdriver. This makes it all but impractical for simple stropping as you should be stropping regularly and it's easy enough to do that by hand.On the other hand, if you did dull your cutting blade say on a piece of wood, I could see this device being of use in order to help you get an accurate angle when you sharpen IF your blade fits well into the hole at the end. Perhaps you could put some tape around the shaft of the blade to center it in the hole?I can't help but think that an industrious individual could easily make some kind of jig for themselves out of two pieces of wood that would eliminate the need of removing the blade from the swivel cutter, or perhaps drilling a hole just the right size for their blade's shaft. To its credit, what the design of this jig lacks in creativity or ingenuity, it is otherwise well made. It does seem to create as many problems as it seeks to fix.For a more complete look at this and other ways to sharpen your swivel knife blade search YOUTUBE for:"Springfield Leather Helpful Hints: Sharpening Swivel Knife Blade" (w/o the quote) (check out the audience sound effect track!)
