Informative, funny, fascinating, weirdly educational
This is just a darn good book. The author clearly knows more than practically anyone else alive about pigs, and has carefully explained everything about this remarkable animal in clear, readable prose. If you want a definitive and thorough overview of pigs, read this book. It is surprisingly interesting.

The beautiful pig
I was a pork producer for 40 years and always enjoyed my occupation and involvement with this wonderful animal.Since I puchased "The Whole Hog" I have enjoyed reading the history of the porcine species in great detail.I have many (Probably over 60) books on pig production but I feel this latest purchase to be one of my very best.Regards Nifty

Not what I expected
Not the kind of book for indepth ownership. I found it of little use to the laymantrying to get into pigs.

I was expecting something rather different.
What I received was an impromptu history lesson on the animal I would be turning into my food. I had never thought of some of the topics contained herein, as the swine that I had dealt with were usually past that point of exhibiting piggyness and were ready to be cut into pieces in the meat locker. All in all, a well written and holistic experience of facts and wisdom about one of mankinds food sources.

History of the pig
The book was a good read. It talks more about the history of the Pig and how smart they are. I guess I assumed it was more about the pig as food then as a pet. My mistake.
