Review: A Wonderful Read. Let yourself get immersed in it - The synopsis on this book was way too intriguing for me to pass it up. Plus, I just enjoy Dean Koontz novels. So, no brainer here. This was one of those novels that I picked up a year ago, read a few chapters, then got distracted by life and put it down for way too long. So, when I picked it back up, I started from the beginning. This time, it sunk its teeth into me and wouldn’t let go. It’s a truly compelling story about mind control, while there may be a bit of a sci-fi edge to it; I shudder to think that anything like this could become a reality. But I wouldn’t deny the possibility. I almost felt like I had been injected with mind-control serum because I couldn’t put this book down. Whenever I wasn’t reading it, I just wanted to get back to it. I’m a sucker for a badass female protagonist. So, this checks off all the boxes for me. I was thrilled to learn that it’s the first book in a series and not a stand-a-lone. It’s pretty long which could seem daunting, but it flies by. The ending of this book was absolutely unbearable, because . . . hear me out: SPOILERS AHEAD It was ramping up very quickly. I was able to calm myself down by reassuring myself that there are more books in this series, so obviously Jane Hawk doesn’t die in the end (of this one, at least). But, as it went along, I got attached to other characters, and I had no idea how this was going to play out. Then there was the final scene between Jane and Nathan and it made my cold heart so very sad. I read A LOT of thrillers and detective novels. They’re the majority of the books that I read. Bad things happen in these books. But, I’m one of those people that doesn’t want anything bad to happen to the protagonists. And, when things are going poorly, I get upset. I know . . . I know . . . it doesn’t make much sense. But here we are. I was squirming while finishing this one. But I was pleased by how it concluded. Jane Hawk is a badass. I can’t wait to read the next one. 5/5 Stars Memorable Quote: “It’s a beautiful, terrible world, isn’t it?”
Review: Interesting concept - This book was unlike the other books I've read by Koontz. The style is different. That said, it was an enjoyable read. I like the concept, the catalyst that propels the heroine into action. Like most action movies, it gets a little hard to believe. Almost everyone she meets is an expert that can help with a stockpile of equipment she can use and is ready to lose everything to help a stranger. Like in the movies, you have to suspend logic and reason for a bit. Still, I enjoyed reading it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Interesting concept

This book was unlike the other books I've read by Koontz. The style is different. That said, it was an enjoyable read. I like the concept, the catalyst that propels the heroine into action. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Koontz at his finest.
*by R***Y on July 6, 2017*

I've been a Koontz fan for a long time, but took a break for a few years because I wasn't into the direction he'd taken. I'm so happy to find that Koontz has taken a direction that I can once again get into. With The Silent Corner, Koontz gives us a new heroine who deals with the dark aspects of today's world. Jane Hawk's husband committed suicide, but for Jane, it was something far more sinister because her husband would never have done such a thing, leaving his wife and five year old son for no desernable reason. With Jane, an FBI agent, the shadowy-would-be-rulers of the world have picked the wrong woman to mess with. Jane refuses to except what she knows intuitively is wrong, and using what's she's learned as an FBI agent, to chase down the men who would enslave the world, and turn us into mind-controlled zombies, only able to do the will of our enslavers. This book is Dean Koontz at his finest, exploring the dark hearts of both the diabolical and the good in equal measure. As a reviewer, I stumbled across a non-fiction book where a doctor regressed patients to their past lives. One section of the book recorded the past life memories of people living at different times in Atlantis. What was interesting, and pertains to Dean's novel, is that the powerful implanted a crystal into each newborn baby so that that they could control the entire population from birth to death. Of course, being evil to the core, the rulers used their victims in all sorts of sexual deviant behaviors for rulers orgies. It's hard to believe that people could do such things, but with all of the complimentary fiction I've read, I have to wonder who much might be true. The Silent. Corner makes me wonder if our fiction writers might be tapping into some sort of cellular mememories. Regardless, this book is terrifying because it could so easily happen. With the Singularity looming, and people tethered to their cell-phones, who knows? I'm certainly going to read the next book in this series because it's both a thrilling read by a master writer, and it feels like we should be aware of where we're going even if we only see it in fiction.
