I had to take it apart and re-set the lights. Once assembled again, the lights are pretty bright, but typical of LEDs, shine forward only - no "throw". So, what you hope to see needs to be directly under the light beam. The goose neck is relatively short, so in a seated position, the light head tends to be between your eyes and the object to see. The reflection of the intense LEDs is like a laser into your retina... and this is with a Kindle... pity the iPad or Nook readers. Paper pages read well.
