Guided Imagery for Self-Healing

Top of the list for using imagery
I'm biased. I took imagery training with Marty Rossman some years ago and found him down to earth, honest and real, as well as one exceptional practitioner of therapeutic imagery. He writes well too. I came in primed to appreciate his work as I had developed my practice from some of the same sources as Rossman and found that he had done an excellent job of integrating a number of useful techniques and placing them in a good technical context.I have seen clients of mine use the techniques in this book to alter the course of chronic and painful conditions. I have had personal success using these techniques, too. For the years I was teaching Imagery workshops, this was the textbook I used. It generally got excellent feedback from the workshop participants.

Thorough and professional explanation about guided imagery!
Guided Imagery was presented in a clear and responsible form without the author resorting to preaching any personal religious philosopy. The part about creating your Inner Advisor was okay as long as I thought he was talking about our subconscious. It was a little far out when he talked about trying to have a dialogue with your symptoms (argue with my ulcer? I don't think so.)All the same it gave me some useful ideas for improving my attitude toward my body's healing systems.

Serious Guided Imagery Readers!
This is the best book for imagery use for health and healing. Dr. Rossman has been in the business for many decades and researched the impact of imagery on health and healing. Excellent book!

Originally brilliant!
In about 250 pages, M. Rossman M.D. relates his experience and clinical researches into interactive guided imagery for self-healing. I have read the book twice over the last 10 years, and each time got positively surprised by its insight.Who will find this book interesting:- Any therapist interested in helping their client harness the power of their mind over their body.- Anybody with a condition who need more help than what conventional western medicine may offer. Why you should read it:- Well-written and captivating.- Original content. In particular, the notion of discussing with an inner advisor or with the symptoms themselves is particularly useful.- Science-based, yet open to what lies beyond.- Addresses a large number of conditions, from stress and chronic pain to cancer.- Has instruction on how to use it on oneself without a therapist, although I can only see this being applicable in simple cases. What can be improved on, from my point of view:- Uses an embryonic form of hypnosis. Although this may be on purpose to not scare people away, therapists would be well-guided (pun intended) to let their clients approach this from within a hypnotic trance.- Reliance on written scripts. This may be useful for a novice therapist or to understand the point of view of the author, however Dr Rossman tends to repeat himself a bit by first explaining the script then writing it down. It may also decrease somewhat the idea that the process is meant to be an interactive loop between the therapist and the client.- The author sometime references to studies without actually quoting them, or only giving partial references. In summary, one of the best book I have read on the subject on complementary healthcare, features prominently within my library.

Essential reading for anyone interested in healthcare
This author has brilliant credentials and it shows. The guided imagery really makes sense and a lot of very helpful science is provided to support all the techniques. I enjoyed this book thoroughly and am now going to read it again very carefully to begin applying the techniques. This is the best book I have read on the subject. I have other similar books such as How the Mind Can Heal the Body and Creative Visualisation, this book has concretised what I've read in the other books but is even more practical and science based.

Excellent!
This book is easy to understand and makes sense. I am following the instructions and am delighted by the results for myself. After working with the relaxation practises for only one week, I was told how relaxed and confident I appeared. That is exactly how I am feeling.I recommend this book to individuals that experience stress, worry, any kinds of ailment, that are interested in making changes in their life to maintain mind/body health.

I recommend his audiobook with Dr
I recommend his audiobook with Dr. Wiel over this if you're not sensitive to price--they have almost the same title, but there is more info in the audiobook.
