Drawing: For the Artistically Undiscovered

You should order a new book because the secondhand ones may be missing the watercolor pencils and pen, even if the book is ranked "very good". These high quality items are important and new to most children and many adults.

This is one of my favorite 'doodle' books. It's very funny and original and just plain fun. I do illustration work and this book can really get me started. I also get great ideas for art classes and for my own children. This is really one of the best art books I know. It also brings home the point that drawings that are not realistic can sometimes show the essence of the subject better. I've bought two of these, one for myself and one for a writer friend, to give her inspiration when she's facing writers block. Yes, drawing and writing are interconnected.

I'm a former commercial artist & I think this book is great. I really wish my mom had given me a book like this when I was a kid. It's fun & very inspirational for a budding artist. Gives easy step by steps and has a way of making whatever the kids draw look great. Unfortunately my kids don't draw, not even a little bit (I've thrown away stacks of coloring books with only connect the dots done, in pencil). I was hoping this would inspire them, but I don't think it's possible.

This book brings out the kid in all of us. I find that I draw with more abandon and freedom thanks to this book. I was reluctant to get this because I'm not a cartoon artist. But I found that doing these exercises helped me in all areas of my art. We all need to loosen up and just enjoy art!Thank you so much for putting out this gem!

I found this book at a used book store and had so much fun with it. The pen and pencils that came with it were of good quality and the easy way it presents playing with drawing was great fun. I decided to send the book to my 14 year old granddaughter because she says she can't draw. Anyone can draw using this book. I would choose this book for anyone older than 4 or 5 years old. Very fun.

I was worried my 8 year old niece wouldn't be interested because of all the text and that it's not an iPhone, but she spent over an hour drawing in this. I sat and with her and explained some of the techniques. She was hooked when the book said to spit on her finger to smear the pencil. Great sketchbook that promotes creativity from the very first page. And yes, it's meant to be sketched in, not on separate paper.

I'm fourty-something and decided I wanted to learn to draw. Picking up that pencil and looking at a blank piece of paper is intimidating. This book helped me break through some anxiety and me doodling in no time. After a week with the book I ended up at an art supply store buying pencils in other colors and different diameter art pens. I don't know how long this would have taken me without this book. Adult-ed drawing classes are next!

This is the best drawing book I've ever seen. I say this as someone who has made a living as an artist for decades and taught art at the college level for seven years. It's focus is on drawing as an act of creative expression. It is not a book on how to draw a dog so it looks like a dog. There are lots of decent books on technique. This goes deeper.

Im Gegensatz zur deutschen Fassung wird hier das – übrigens professionelle – Werkzeuggleich mitgeliefert. Man kann nicht anders, als sofort loszulegen. Eine wunderbare Idee.Spielerisch, mit viel Humor und ohne Anspruch auf perfekte Ergebnisse, wird hier gemeinsammit dem Leser der Zauber der Linie entdeckt.Empfehlenswert für alle, die behaupten sie könnten nicht zeichnen ;)

この本の著者であるクエンティン･ブレイクは、ロアルド･ダールの本の挿絵でも有名です。ダールの本を読んですっかりブレイクに魅せられてしまい、美術は昔っから大の苦手なのですが、絵が描けたら素敵だなとは常々思っていましたので買ってしまいました。内容は、「まずは名前を書こう」「線を引いてみよう」ということから始まって、徐々に「影のつけ方」「遠近法」と少しずつ専門的になっていきます。しかしこの本は、絵を描くのが苦手な人に、絵を描くことの楽しさを知ってもらいたい！ということを一番大切にしているので、ページをめくるごとに私たちを励ましてくれる言葉がいっぱいです。イントロダクションのページには、こんな文が。How Do I Criticize My Art Properly?-It's easy! Here's the space for your negative comments on this page.そして大きな矢印の先には一辺が2ミリくらいの小さな□が・・・。これが、この本の基本的姿勢の全てをあらわしていると思います。とにかく絵を描くということはすごく楽しいことなんだということを伝えようとしているのを、ひしひしと感じます。何よりブレイクの絵が脱力系（？）なので気楽に取り組めるのが良いです。もちろん、絵を描くのが得意な人ならさらに楽しめると思います。こんな本に、こどものときに出会いたかったです。

This copy from Amazon was sent to a friend.Drawing for the Artistically Undiscovered, is by Quentin Blake (yes, illustrator for Roald Dahl's books) and John Cassidy. You are supplied with a pen, and two water soluble pencils - red and black - and no eraser! It is a great way for anyone to get into the spirit of drawing.This excerpt from page 7 pretty much sums up the spirit of the book:"... sneak into the heart of your subject by going direct. We're not so much interested in the appearance of something, so much as the 'something' itself.""Think of it this way: An effective poem wastes no words on its way to the core of its subject. Ne ho acquistati due per i miei bambini. E' davvero fatto molto bene e permette di imparare a disegnare seguendo piu' l'emozione che la tecnica.Non è un corso di disegno, ma pagina dopo pagina aiuta a disegnare personaggi e oggetti di uso comune esprimendone l'essenza e non la perfezione estetica.In perfetto stile Q. Aviso: Está en inglés pero es bastante intuitivo. Además, está pensado para que hagas lo que quieras con él.Perfecto para dibujantes mas bien poco mañosos. Este tipo de dibujo es una salida estupenda. Lo recomiendo.
